Yoga Awareness
Experience the authentic Indian teachings of Yoga and Ayurveda with Tedd Surman and Masumi of Yoga Awareness in USA, Hawaii, Japan and India. Our purpose is to help students develop a practice with the skillful application of Yoga and Ayurveda. When the body and mind starts to purify we then experience a state of mindfulness and clarity.

Each person is unique and has different interests of health, abundance, aspirations and beliefs. Yoga and Ayurveda gives us this clarity to focus, strengthen and move towards our chosen interests. Yoga Awareness teachers have achieved certified international standards of Yoga and Ayurveda training with Yoga Awareness (YAT) and Yoga Alliance (RYT).
Services
Yoga is to have a stable mind and healthy body. Ayurveda is to have a healthy body that is free from disease. When practiced together Yoga and Ayurveda work hand-in-hand as brother and sister healing modalities. Raja Yoga literally means to 'shine the mind' and strengthen the body. Yoga Awareness offers the authentic Vedic teaching of Raja Yoga by Patanjali as taught through the Krishnamacharya-Desikachar lineage.
Yoga is the state of focus and peacefulness which gives us a healthy body and strong mind. Raja Yoga means to shine the mind. We practice Kriya Yoga (action of yoga), Ashtanga Yoga (methods of yoga) and Samkhya Yoga (philosophy of yoga) to purify and enlighten ourself. Yoga has a good effect on the body and mind.
Ayurveda means to 'know your life' and has been the Indian health-care system for over 5,000 years. Benefit with the practical and profound wisdom of Ayurveda holistic healing. With deep roots in Indian culture Ayurveda is a great alternative to Western medicine using the four pillar principles of food, lifestyle, sleep and relationship for balanced health.
What are your needs, aspirations and goals? Are you interested in Yoga for becoming more flexible and to strengthen your body, or for calming and focusing your mind with meditation, or to become a teacher of Yoga and Ayurveda? Are you interested in Ayurveda to learn more about your well-being and the healthcare for others?
Tedd Surman has compiled trainings in India since 2001. You will gain a comprehensive understanding of Raja Yoga and the teachings of Patanjali (mid 2nd century BCE), as passed down through the Krishnamacharya-Desikachar lineage, and the Ayurvedic teachings of Charaka Samhita and Ashtanga Hydryam. What are your needs, your goals and which training may best align with your Yoga and Ayurveda path?

I highly recommend Yoga Awareness as a studio for anyone interested in discovering how Yoga can positively change your life. Tedd and Masumi are not in this business to make money, they are teachers that care about your wellness. When you practice here there is no doubt you are experiencing Yoga as it is intended; to connect mind, body, and inner self. To achieve a friendly, compassionate and honest understanding within yourself, of what obstacles lay before you. If you are further intrigued the opportunity will always exist at Yoga Awareness to discover an achievable means to overcoming those

Tedd has been practicing yoga for ~25 years, and for the past decade or more, and for more than a decade, he's been traveling to India annually receiving in-depth continual training in the traditional Ayurveda. He is very well-learned and dedicated to this path...the results speak for themselves.
When I arrived my blood pressure was racing and my energies were very far out of balance. My hair was falling out in fist fulls... I was diagnosed with Graves disease and a host of other auto-immune disorders. Nearly every part of my body was out of whack (due to 12 surgeries). After just a week of yoga

In Yoga Awareness I found a special quality of instruction and a deep understanding of the vast heart of Yoga. Going far beyond the surface level of Asana practice, the instructors at Yoga Awareness have committed themselves to the traditions and purpose of a well-rounded practice. They share these teachings and the wisdom gained through first hand experience with their students in an intelligent, patient, and kind manner. If I could practice there each day I would. What a beautiful community of dedicated Yogis!

Yoga Awareness is like a hidden gem among yoga studios. Here, I finally feel like i’m practicing ‘authentic’ yoga. They follow a lineage where yoga is more one-on-one, where the group classes are small and there’s more individual attention. They continuously stress awareness of the breath and movement, which makes the asanas more enjoyable and interesting to do. Without this awareness, we’re just going through the motions!
Now, my chronically stiff neck is looser and my back is feeling sturdier. After years of both fatigue and frazzled nerves, I’m now having more days of calm energy

I just completed 13 days of continuous 1-on-1 yoga & Ayurveda therapy with Tedd and Matsumi san. I previously tried many different types of treatment for my chronic pain. Tedd emphasizes on the important basics which are correct alignment of body and peaceful mind which we so easily neglect and he patiently guides through them. I really enjoyed peaceful, happy practices and vibe at the studio. Will definitely continue my daily yoga regimen. Five stars indeed.

Yoga Awareness devotedly offers fine, high-standards teachings of Yoga and Ayurveda. Their Teacher Trainings and Self Trainings are a rare opportunity in the Western World to connect with the lineage of Sri T. Krishnamacharya, and to sincerely commit to one's practice, enriching through self-awareness. My experience has been of deep transformation and inspiration, ever enlightened in this path of yoga. Infinite is my apprenticeship, and so is my gratitude!

I arrived at my training with no expectations. I got there not really knowing if I was good enough to be a yoga teacher, if I could move properly, if I was really the right role model for a class of students! I arrived with fear, and left with a new found sense of self love and self confidence in myself.
I can say from my heart that this training has helped to change my life. Before attending the training and after, I have been through some of the hardest things I have experienced. If it was not for the teachings that Tedd has passed on to me, I don't think I would have come out of those experiences

Tedd is an excellent Ayurvedic therapist who is knowledgeable and compassionate. His treatments have helped my longstanding knee, back and neck pain. He has taken the time to craft yoga exercises personally for me that are also extremely helpful for relieving pain and strengthening my knee, back and neck. I highly recommend Tedd and Yoga Awareness.
