Although yoga as a practice is therapeutic, there are significant differences between a yoga teacher and a yoga therapist and between a yoga class and a yoga therapy session. Clarity about these differences is helpful for the teacher/therapist, as well as for the student/client.
We will look at this distinction from the perspectives of the yoga student, the yoga therapy client, the yoga teacher, the yoga therapist the yoga class and the yoga therapy session. The yoga student: There are many reasons why students go to a yoga class or seek out private yoga instruction. To make a sound decision, students would do well to look deeply at their intentions for seeking out yoga education, yoga instruction, or yoga therapy.

Psychological and medical empirical observations and research support that Yoga, while an ancient philosophy and exercise, offers noninvasive and easy to learn skills to improve physical and emotional health. Yoga is not a religion but it is respected as a support for individuals who seek intrinsic connection to their spirituality and/or religion.
It provides a holistic approach to treating the entire person, combining various physical practices of Yoga, psychological techniques for therapy and energetic skills. Meditation, breath, mindfulness, Yoga poses, and Chakra/Energy healing are utilized by a licensed mental health professional trained in the practice of Viniyoga.
This traditional Hatha Yoga class goes beyond the typical western gym studio yoga class.
This class provides the expected exercise and stress reduction that most gym and studio classes offer, however, the richer part of yoga practice typically eliminated by Western yoga classes is returned so that the powerful techniques of breathe (pranayama), concentration (dharana), and meditation (dhyana) enhances physical health and mental acuity to promote emotional balance and spiritual awareness.
