The food here is well made and the staff is very friendly. The price is about average for CT restaurants, and the dessert here is very tasty. They actually have a big dessert menu and depending on the time the menu changes from lunch to dinner. The decorations during the holidays in the back dining area and bar are very well done and the glasses and dinning ware are all very clean.
I would recommend this place for anyone with picky eaters (they have a kids menu with smaller portions and easy options)

AWESOME food, wonderful to work with, we did our daughters bridal shower at Hawk Ridge Winery and Gigi and Mike made the food it was delicious!!! Daughters only request was lobster Mac and cheese and it was awesome along with lemon chicken and chicken Marsala, salad and green beans almond one,thankyou again, food was there and ready just as planned!! you guys rock!! 😊❤️

We had a 50 person baptism/birthday reception at Mangia. The service was excellent and all of our guests complimented the food. Beautiful venue, very affordable we were very impressed.

The food was excellent. Atmosphere was so nice and the owner, Mike Cavallo, even came out and sat and talked with us. I can't wait to go back there. We had a wonderful night there.

Dined here this past weekend on a whim & LOVED it! Great location with an all glass front overlooking a patio & comfortable, cozy vibe inside. The very personable owners & staff on site definitely make it a reason to return besides the delicious food in this neat & clean bistro feel restaurant.
The food was outstanding. I had the sautéed Spinach app & chicken wings. I also had their signature Salmon dish that was phenomenal! Definitely will visit again!

My experience here. Nice lady at the register. Ordered angus blue without bacon. Can't see the cook but he obviously can't read an order. Medium rare was over fine, no blue cheese, came with unmelted packed cheddar. Sweet potato fries obviously frozen, onion rings too and a tiny portion at that. Won't be back for 25 dollars. Burglar king probably equals in quality

I loved Mangia. I grew up in Watertown & some of my favorite dishes are there. Today I was in town & stopped by to grab lunch with my husband. We were shocked to see that not one of the 4 visible staff were wearing masks, including staff in the kitchen. We were so disgusted we just walked out. I just want people to be aware of how their food is being prepared, especially if they may be elderly or immunocompromised.

Cute place. It's small and homey, and the staff is friendly. We've been here for both small family dinners and big events, and they've always accommodated pretty well. Last time I went, I had the raviolis with vodka sauce and they were really delicious. We also had a pastry for dessert and it was tasty. We've had buffets that included chicken parmesan and pasta, among other things, and that has always been fantastic!

"On an evening in Roma" by Dean Martin was playing when we walked in. And then all the other songs from the "Mob Hits" cd continued throughout our dinner. I love that cd and we loved the food at Mangia. Pictures of ripe green olives and olive oil are on the walls and the rug has olive leaves all over it. Ahhhh Yes.....I love everything Italian. By the way, GiGi isn't trying to be loud, She's just Italian. Lol

I went to Mangia on Sunday for a family get together. I have not been to this restaurant since it was formerly Mateo. We enjoyed Mateo so much that we were nervous to go under new ownership/management. Upon arriving on Sunday, we noticed that there was a sign on the window saying that they were normally closed on Sundays and that they were only open for private catering and dining.

The restaurant looks exactly the same as when it was Mateo. The food does not taste the same, but the menu is exactly the same. I would like to come on a weekday and try it again.

Arriving at this restaurant you feel like the most recent holiday has thrown up all over!!

Apparently we picked a night that a bunch of people had called out....but we did not know that!!

We waited at least 15 minutes after being seated....no one came to our table. My husband had to go to the bar to get our drinks. The owner was there and asked if any one had been to our table and how long we had been waiting .

She did feel bad and tried to make it right. However, they need to stop saying they're serving risotto.....I don't know what that wallpaper paste is that they mold into

This review is specific to the sit-down experience - don't do it! While food and prices are decent, the experience is sadly lacking - service is abysmal and communication is poor, I've been coming here for more than 10 years, since it was Matteo's, and it's going to be a long time before I come back. There are many better places to spend your money in greater Waterbury - this one doesn't measure up.

I wanted to love it, but it was awful. Service was very slow. I ordered a salad which came out with my meal instead of before, something that always irks me. I ordered honey mustard dressing and received a cup of mustard. Not sure how a cup of mustard constitutes dressing?!? So the salad went uneaten. I ordered mac and cheese with buffalo chicken it it and it was one of the worst things I've ever had. The chicken was so dry I could barely cut or bite through it. I ate a few pieces hoping there was some decent chicken in there, but there wasn't. So I paid $20+ for a meal that

Salads- large and delicious. Wraps- great size and the chicken is always cooked perfectly.

Excellent food, good prices, owners are some of the nicest people around. Go here, you won't be disappointed and definitely won't leave hungry.

If I worked in town, I would order from here everyday! They gave really great salads and paninis. They have a really great lunch menu with lots of options. I always want to get all the cupcakes in the front case because they are so delicious and they look phenomenal.

When it's warm out definitely have lunch out on the patio!!

Their hours do seem kind of strange though. But I remember the previous restaurant had strange hours as well.

Oh my god. This place has THE BEST paninis! They are to die for! I love the Roast Beef and cheddar panini! Service is great, love how we can choose to eat outside on their patio! You have to try this spot!

Where to begin?? I guess I should start off by saying that the hours of business are extremely strange; closed on Sundays and closes by 3pm on Mondays and Tuesdays. Sidenote: Do not be suprised if they close before stated closing times. It has happened to my co-workers and I on numerous occasions. I have actually been inside the restaurant (picking up to-go) 10 minutes before closing and witnessed them locking the door and neglecting to answer the phone, which rang off the hook for the better half of my short stay. I loved this place when it was Matteo and I find that 'Gigi and Mike'

Great place. We come here several times for lunch and dinner. The staff is friendly and the service is excellent. The new owners always make it a point to ask how the meal was. Desserts are good.

We were big fans of the former Matteo's, and were kind of let down when we saw it had changed hands. The new owners formerly ran the restaurant at Crestbrook, which we weren't big fans of. The last time we ate at Matteo's, it was actually during the transition and we could tell the difference in the food right away. We had ordered dishes that we regularly ordered in the past, but this time they seemed...rushed and tasteless. Needless to say we stayed away for awhile. But having heard some good things we decided to give it another try for lunch.

They made a cake for us for a party last month and it was awesome! We asked them to use mousse for the frosting and it came out great. We ordered on a Friday afternoon and were able to pick the cake up Saturday for a Sunday party. Very friendly, helpful and accommodating ...and delicious - everyone raved about the cake.

I went here at the suggestion of a friend, and it was just average. The service was friendly, but a bit slow. The food we had for dinner was ok, but when I got my leftovers (I had a salad) packaged to go, they didn't put a cap on the salad dressing container. As a result, on the drive home, dressing spilled all over the styrofoam container which held the salad. Dessert was just bad. We ordered a Boston crème cupcake. Sautéed Spinach with Sausage is Amazing. Friend swears by the Lobster Mac & Cheese! Be sure to save room for either the Carrot Cheesecake or Chocolate Bread Pudding Dessert.
