Baker Smith (TBS) has acquired Naismith Marine Services, Inc. (NMS), a hydrographic, geophysical surveying and environmental firm based in Rockport, Texas. Naismith Marine Services specializes in bathymetry, underwater inspection and imaging, oyster and seagrass surveys and wetland delineations.

Jim has an M.S. in Civil Engineering and is a licensed captain. Mr. Naismith is a third-generation surveyor with more than 30 years of experience in all aspects of land and hydrographic surveying. His projects range from continental scale survey control to individual dock surveys. He has authored and presented numerous training manuals, technical presentations, and web-based technical content.
As a mainstay of our work, single beam bathymetry uses an echo sounder to measure depths under the survey vessel. Tide and other factors are accounted for to produce data referenced to the appropriate datum. With proper calibration, the data is reliable and relatively inexpensive to collect. A dual frequency system is used to "see through" fluid mud or into the surface of the sea floor.
Naismith Marine completed a coastal boundary survey, borrow area surveys, marsh mound surveys, geotube, hazard, and other specialized surveys for this project. We provided construction surveying including the post-construction as-built and aerial photographs. Currently, we provide monitoring surveys to evaluate restoration success.
