Aikido Agatsu Dojos
My study began years ago. My husband and I were newly married looking for something to do together that was good exercise and not a team activity. The benefits have expanded over the years. As a physician, I am able to interact more calmly in stressful situations. Physically, as a woman, I have increased upper body strength and improved body awareness.

Aikido gives me a sense of calm now as I face career challenges. Facing hard times, the question is whether to persevere or let it overtake you. The centeredness learned in Aikido allows you to recognize challenges and decide a course of action.
Services
Founded by Ueshiba Morihei, referred to as O'Sensei, Aikido developed as a pure form of Budo (Martial Way). Drawing upon aspects of many ancient Japanese disciplines, Aikido is a highly refined Martial Art that strengthens the individual practitioner and improves both physical and mental abilities.
Agatsu Dojos takes it's name from a portion of an O'Sensei Doka (poem) 'Masakatsu Agatsu' or 'True Victory is Self-Victory'. Established in 1976, Agatsu Dojos has become recognized in the US and abroad for it's dedication to the 'Riai' or 'Harmonization of Principles' of Taijutsu (body arts), Aiki-Ken (sword) and Aiki-Jo (staff) found in Traditional Aikido as developed by the Founder.
Adult Classes Improve Fitness & Stress Levels by promoting an environment of Conditioning and Centeredness in response to conflict. Developing Awareness and effective Self-Defense, Traditional Aikido teaches Control and Balance through redirection of force. Progression in Rank comes through individual effort.
Teen Classes at Agatsu Dojos offer an atmosphere of supportive social interaction that builds Positive Self-Image and effective peer pressure response along with Awareness and effective Self-Defense. Students build quality friendships while developing Responsibility and Leadership.

Cultural & community service opportunities are offered along with guidance, referrals and letters of recommendation from their Instructors as they improve and advance in their study.Achievement & Motivation are realized through individual effort versus team oriented activities. My Grandson wanted to do a Martial Art that was not violent.
Students learn to work together in a productive atmosphere, developing Positive Interaction Skills under Adult Supervision with Highly Qualified & Experienced Instructors. As a Kindergarten Teacher, I can see how the kids learn while moving. My advice for a parent, would be to find a Martial Art like Traditional Aikido because it is concentrated and honest.

I was learning from the Cranes over 20 years ago. Aikido has never left me. I do my exercises every day to “keep the rust out of my joints” per O Sensei I think. I moved and have been away. At 65 I am thinking about returning to the Dojo. Not sure if I can handle it but I’ll talk to the Cranes about it.

Aikido Agatsu Dojos is committed to traditional Aikido practice. With several connections to the family of the founder, Sensei R. Crane and Sensei K. Crane instruct the art as it was meant to be instructed with an emphasis on the interconnectedness of ken (sword), jo (staff) and body arts. I have been training for 18 years and I have found, not only a means of defending myself and staying in shape, but a family that has embraced my training and efforts towards self-improvement. Highly recommend for youth, teen or adult beginners or students who have trained in the art elsewhere.

Since joining Aikido Agatsu Dojos in 2008, I've gained a sense of security in learning how to defend myself safely and how to be safe while traveling alone, which I do a lot. Crane Sensei and their staff instill and reinforce self-discipline, healthy living and respect for others. Aikido also teaches victory over yourself. Victories such as overcoming fear of test taking, fear of not being good at the techniques right away and learning that the journey is more important than your next belt level. I recommend their programs to all ages!
