Julie Allison is a Doctor of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine specializing in pain management, women's health, digestive issues, autoimmune conditions, stress, and anxiety. She is Board certified as a Diplomat of Oriental Medicine and Herbal Medicine by the National Commission of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM), and is a certified Mei Zen cosmetic acupuncture practitioner.
Acupuncture has been used as a healing modality for over 3,000 years and is part of a system called Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). Chinese medicine takes into consideration the person as a whole and treats the underlying cause, or root, of disease, to increase function and improve vitality. Acupuncture consists of the precise insertion of extremely fine needles at specific acupuncture points located on the body.
Infertility is defined as the inability to get pregnant after 1 year of trying if you're under 35, and 6 months without success if you're over 35. Ancient Chinese medical records indicate that treatment of infertility and miscarriage dates back to 200 A.D. Traditional Chinese Medicine (acupuncture and herbs) treats the underlying imbalance that is the cause of infertility.
Yes! Prenatal acupuncture has been used for thousands of years to help patients support a healthy pregnancy and uncomplicated delivery. An Australian study conducted by Adelaide University in 2002 found that acupuncture during pregnancy had no adverse effects and was completely safe when done by a trained acupuncturist.
I have gone to many acupuncturists over many years and I found Julie to be excellent. She was exceptionally knowledgeable, caring, and effective in her treatment as well as her prescription of herbs. She was able to loosen and clear a deep rooted chest infection sparing me from taking antibiotics and steroids.

I have been seeing Julie for nearly 2 years. I'd been interested in trying acupuncture for some time for a cranky knee and found Julie on the internet. I was impressed with her website and easy location, and I'm so glad I decided to visit her! I enjoy her relaxing treatments once or twice a month for various aches and pains that come with age plus for stress relief and general well-being. I highly recommend Julie. When looking for an acupuncturist, Julie stood out as the only Doctor of Acupuncture in our area. She also stood out for being educated and experienced in both western (an MUSC grad) and Traditional Chinese medicine. She used this diverse background during the initial assessment and ongoing treatment.

The first thing I noticed on my first visit was the relaxing atmosphere, Dr. Julie has created a welcoming and warm space. After three sessions with Dr. Julie I can confidently say that her treatments have changed my life for the better. Following foot surgery, I was experiencing balance issues while running and discomfort in my alignment on the bike. A search for a Doctor of Acupuncture who specializes in orthopedic assessments led me to Dr. Julie. A series of treatments brought back form in my gait and comfort and strength on the bike. My overall movement has improved greatly.

Julie is an absolute gem. She's kind, attentive, and amazingly talented. I came in not being able to move and left feeling incredible relief following weeks of lower back issues. You can tell she really loves what she does and cares about her patients well being. Much more than just a transaction for her. I can't recommend her more highly and would probably fly in to Charleston just to see her again :).

I would recommend Dr Julie to anyone. She is wonderful, compassionate and knowledgeable. I suffer from migraines and I could tell very early in my treatment the migraines were less painful. The frequency has gotten better as well. I was taking medication for migraine prevention that had unpleasant side effects. I am so thankful I tried acupuncture, and I am so blessed to have found Dr. Julie. She is a large part of my journey to better health and a better quality of life.
