West Main Animal Hospital has proudly provided the Alhambra and surrounding communities with veterinary services since 1978. In 1977 Dr. George Wilson transformed the building, which had then been known as Coutts Plumbing, into a veterinary practice. In 1994, Dr. Laszlo A. Frics, DVM, remodeled the entire building from a 1,500-square-foot to a 3,200-square-foot animal hospital.
When it came time to start my own practice, I knew that Alhambra would be a great place. Alhambra is central to the greater Los Angeles area and was a great place to be when Dr. Wilson was here, and even a greater place to be now. Dr. Frics has seen many changes in the Alhambra landscape since taking ownership of West Main Animal Hospital 20 years ago.

Dr. Frics was born in Hungary and moved to the U.S. when he was a very young boy. As he grew up on a ranch in South Dakota, his love for animals began. His foundation with medicine came from his father who was a well-respected large animal veterinarian in the Midwest. After graduating from the University of Minnesota Veterinary School, he moved to California.

For this reason, it is so important to keep your pet's mouth healthy and clean at all times. When your pet comes in to our office for their annual wellness exam or a sick visit, we perform a nose-to-tail examination that includes the oral cavity.

Thank you, thank you, thank you! We had what we thought was an emergency with our 9 yo Boxer. Not eating, stomach gurgling, and some other gross things. We previously had a Boxer that had some of these symptoms, and it turned out to be cancer, so we were freaking out. Turns out it wasn’t as serious as we thought. A few days earlier, we called just about every Vet in the San Gabriel valley, and none of them could see us. The soonest any of them could see us was 7-8 hrs. We would have to wait there in line, and they couldn’t even guarantee that we would be seen. Most of them told us flat out

Finally! After 3 years of trying to find a vet office that actually cares about our dogs we finally found this amazing place. We have had terrible experiences in the past with service, up charges, lack of communication, and general lack of compassion from 3 previous vet offices.
West Main Animal Hospital goes above and beyond to make sure we are informed and comfortable with all procedures and info as treatment occurs. Costs of procedures are explained beforehand and they are even accommodating to payment plans for high cost procedures.

We have been taking our family pets and rescue dogs to West Main for over 15 years. The entire staff is like our family. They respond to all of our concerns with compassion.
We are extra grateful that they have been able to serve the community and us even during COVID.
In addition, we have used Cindy Wood several times for consultations, and WOW, she is the REAL DEAL.

Been a customer for over 30 years..... Pre Pandemic, appointments were timely, (give or take 15 minutes) Now, Post-Pandrmic the wait time is getting longer, 40 minutes to one hour and that it with a scheduled appointment of six weeks. What is not acceptable, we are in our our cars waiting to be seen. I understand why, but they have no regard to the heat in the cars and pets getting anxious in their carriers. They should scheduled 2 pets and hour to keep a timely scheduled.

The doctors and the staff are the best and friendly personnel around
They have great customer service.
I've been taking my puppies and dogs their for 20 years and I've never had any problems nor complaints from them.
I reccomand anyone with their new puppy.

THEY ACTUALLY CARE!!!
West Main Animal Hospital is full of little surprises that let you know they care about you and your pet. There are several parking spots in the back as well as parking along the streets leading to Target.
I came in for a visit after having a TERRIBLE experience at Temple City Animal Hospital. This was a completely different experience and the difference between a good business and bad one are painfully clear now.
West Main scheduled me for an appointment and a representative came out immediately to welcome my pet. The doctor called and knew exactly what he was talking

I can't say enough how much I appreciate the whole staff. The attention to details and the genuine concerne and compassion are surpassed by none . I have had 2 of my dogs here over the last few months one for a spay ( pit bull ) and one for heart issues ( 11 yr old chihuahua ) and and every time they have surpassed my expectations.

Dr. Frics and the staff are wonderful! We brought Smokey in for horribly itchy skin. Smokey loves us, but is not fond of other people - to put it mildly! Dr. Frics was patient and explained everything that needed to be done. He and the staff clearly have experience with aggressive animals and don't consider them to be "bad". We will definitely bring all three pups here in the future!
