We are a multidisciplinary healthcare center offering top-quality chiropractic, acupuncture, McKenzie method, physical therapy and functional / nutritional medicine. Additionally, we offer VAX-D therapy - a patented, FDA-approved spinal decompression therapy that treats spinal disorders causing neck or back pain.
Guided by a Functional Medicine approach - the core philosophy of healthcare at American Back Center - our chiropractors will often combine their specialized knowledge with that of other healthcare professions (such as osteopathic, medical and physical therapy) to get at the root cause of your problem before recommending a treatment plan.
Vax-D, short for Vertebral Axial Decompression, is a procedure that decompresses, or takes the pressure off, the discs of the spine. We know that the majority of neck and back pain is rooted in disorders of the spinal discs and many patients who have been diagnosed by MRI to have disc-related disease struggle to find answers.
We usually recommend a 16 sessions protocal to heal your back problem. However, we monitor your progress and decided if fewer or more sessions are needed to complete the headling process. Sometimes we recommend other treatments in conjunction with VAX-D. We have had patients heal within only a few sessions.

I went in to see Dr. Edginton after a back issue I've had for years finally culminated in a herniated disc. After seeing multiple doctors and physical therapists over the years who either wrote me off or gave me bad advice I finally found someone who has put me on the path to recovery. I only wish I'd found this place sooner.

I had a herniated disc in late March 2020 and I have been extremely happy and impressed by the level of care offered at the American Back Center. From scheduling with the receptionist to working with the chiropractor and the massage therapist, I received excellent, genuine, high-quality care to heal my back. I've been getting regular adjustments from Dr. Chris for nearly a year and he's been a life saver! I've always had issues with my back and his adjustments are imperative for keeping me healthy. I tried several other chiropractors in Chicago before I found him--no one else was able to provide the kind of care I needed. Dr. Edginton is very knowledgeable, professional, and personable. After hearing about him from a close friend who had been seeing him, I visited him for my lower back pain. He took the time to explain the mechanics of my spine and what was potentially causing the issue. After doing the exercises he prescribed, my pain has decreased significantly.

Love this place! I had the best massage ever with their therapist Denise. She really took the time to listen to my areas of concern and provided excellent service. Marlise was so warm and welcoming upon arrival. The location is super convenient and they are totally on top of all the COVID safety precautions so I felt incredibly safe. Dr. Chris is so personable and runs an incredibly professional office. He has the best technology for state of the art chiropractic treatments in the city.

If I could rate higher than 5 stars, I would! Dr. Chris is extremely good at what he does and he makes you feel comfortable from the minute you arrive at his office. Came to the American Back Center because my back hurts and the things I did before didn't work. Everyone was professional and friendly. I'm excited to work with these people because it's not the same old treatment with the same old results. I was given an exam the doctor talked to me and explained my condition. Dr Chris and the staff at American Back Center are the best! I had hip replacement surgery and they came up with a comprehensive therapy program fir me to get my mobility and strength back.
Kevin is a great physical therapist and provided a sense of humor while pushing me through exercises.

Dr. Chris is a super down to earth doctor. He explained everything to me so I understood why my body was the way it was. He is very thorough and gives you exercises to do on your own so you can help your treatment. I recommend him to anyone experiencing back pain. I have had a recurring back pain for a while and I decided to have it checked. I made a call and I had an appointment for next day, whiting a week I was already under treatment for my issue. Every one is very friendly and make it very easy to schedule appointments. Dr Edgintin was very friendly and explained everything in great detail. I highly recommend The American Back Institute.

A small, yet full service office that accommodates a wide array of needs in a holistic way. It's health care with a personal touch! When I injured my back this summer the pain was so intense that I almost checked into the emergency room. I've been wanting to go back to a chiropractor ever since getting bad backaches. I came here on a recommendation from a coworker. Bonus points off the bat for the fantastic location: the floor below where I work!
Dr. Chris is great. He's very friendly and immediately puts his patients at ease. I've been going to him about 3x a week and already have felt the results. I have not had any back pains and I feel a lot healthier and more energetic. Having my back cracked and massaged has been the best way to start my morning.

I had the pleasure of meeting Dr. Rosenthal and the staff in 2008. My experience was great. I went in on the verge of being a diabetic and having some other health issues. Within 6 months of making gradual changes to my diet, using the supplements and incorporating daily walking for exercise I was vastly improved. Later on the chiropractor (Dr. Dever) got me aligned. The supplements are expensive but worth it..think of it as having a great meal/night on the town but your body will be better for it. I greatly appreciated that I was allowed to choose what I would and would not do/buy.

I have felt comfortable in this office since my very first visit. The staff takes a really caring approach to chiropractic care. Their focus is on holistic and nutritious methods. I seem to learn something new each time I walk through their doors.
Dr. Gomez is a particularly warm chiropractor. She pays close attention to ensure she understands all of your pain issues before each treatment. I feel safe in her hands which is important because my back and neck might come in handy down the road, so I want to take good care of them.

I first visited nearly ten years ago due to a back injury/disc problem. While I was unable to go through their revolutionary Vax-D treatment, the chiropractor was able to manually put the disc back in place, and to this day I have no disc back pain! Other doctors recomennded surgery ... these folks are great!
With regard to their testing and diet recommendations - I, too, was a nonbeliever. I've come to learn that much of what we eat, from processed foods to plain old wheat, is really bad for many of us. By following the (sometimes rigid

I started going to Dr. Calderello shortly after moving to Chicago in 2001, and I have always been very happy with her as my chiropractor. She honestly cares for her patients, and has always done great by me.
There's a lot of "pushing" by the other staff to purchase other services, which I find rather bothersome, so that costs them a star as a clinic, but Dr. C gets 5 for herself :)
