SMSC Organics Recycling Facility
Welcome to the SMSC Organics Recycling Facility, an enterprise owned and operated by the Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community (SMSC). We are part of the SMSC's focus on being a good steward of the earth. At the SMSC Organics Recycling Facility, we recycle organic materials-like paper, food, and yard waste-from residential, commercial, and municipal customers.

Then, we craft a nutrient-rich, natural fertilizer for gardening, farming, landscaping, and more. We also process wood to be used as mulch. Our Dakotah Roots products are available for retail and wholesale.
Services
The Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community (SMSC), a federally recognized Native American tribe, opened the SMSC Organics Recycling Facility in the fall of 2011. The facility is part of the SMSC's Dakota tradition of caring for the earth. We take what may have been tossed in a landfill and instead create high-quality compost, compost blends, colored mulch, and more for whatever project you're working on.
Whether you're maintaining a construction site, disposing of source-separated organics, or purchasing top dressing for a multi-acre project, we've got the resources to help you handle the larger jobs. The SMSC Organics Recycling Facility offers compost and compost blends that meet MnDOT specifications in commercial quantities, and we accept organic waste by the truckload.
Are you ready to create a beautiful landscape? Dakotah Roots products are the perfect amendments to help your garden flourish. Whether you're looking for colored mulch to add curb appeal, or seeking a natural garden blend to help your plants grow, we take our time when crafting products for your outdoor projects and landscaping.
As local composting efforts capture more and more organic material, the SMSC Organics Recycling Facility is nearing capacity. The Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community is considering relocating our Organics Recycling Facility to an industrial location near the intersection of highways 169 and 41 in Louisville Township.
