A Helping Hand and Carol Woods have created a powerful alliance to provide the highest quality home care for individuals and families in Orange, Durham and Chatham counties. Our goal is clear-to offer home care services that will allow the people we serve to continue to live in their residences independently and safely.
The formal relationship between A Helping Hand and Carol Woods, which began in 2018, is based on principles of social and economic justice. We believe that the people we serve, regardless of their socio-economic status, should have options to live at home and independently. We believe that our caregivers and personal assistants should be paid fair, livable wages for their important work.

Great place to work for! I worked here for 2 summers and enjoyed my time with my clients. You can have a set schedule and you work independently. I worked as a companion for one summer and a PCA the next. I highly suggest working for this company if you have the chance! I will definitely miss this place.

A Helping Hand is a wonderful organization. I worked for them as an intern and as a paid companion for over a year. Communication between staff was always easy. They really care about their clients and their staff. They also are great advocates for the older adult community, in Chapel Hill and North Carolina broadly. A pleasure to work for.

My family and I have found this to be a wonderful agency to help with caring for our mom. Over several years we have had the pleasure of getting to know several different companions from Helping Hands. They have all been kind, considerate, and thoughtful, and our mom has enjoyed their company. I highly recommend this agency to others with this need.

I have been a volunteer with A Helping Hand for almost a year now, and I really enjoy volunteering with the clients I see. I am a volunteer in the charitable program where my assistance is free of charge to the client. Through my experience, I have only met respectful, polite, and cheerful older adults who probably would not receive much assistance without the help of A Helping Hand volunteers. Staff at A Helping Hand is also very responsive to email and phone calls. Working with this organization has been a positive learning experience since I moved to Durham.

I worked as a summer intern with A Helping Hand. I had never worked with seniors before and through the help and support of A Helping Hand staff I quickly found that I had a passion for this line of work. The service that A Helping Hand provides is so crucial to so many people. As an intern I felt like the Helping Hand staff were looking out for me and providing me with opportunities both with them and outside of their organization.

A Helping Hand is a great organization that strives to provide the best care for people in Durham and Chapel Hill. It is obvious that the administration cares deeply for all clients and is quick to respond to any inquiry. I volunteered with AHH while in school at UNC, and I recommend this experience for any student looking to serve the community, especially those entering the healthcare or social work fields

I was a summer intern at A Helping Hand and was blown away by the amazing work that this organization does. The people who work there are truly passionate about what they do. It saddens me to see some of the negative reviews, I think it is important for people to realize that AHH works hard to help the underserved by providing different forms of care, including respite care, but not medical care. This distinction may provide some clarification. AHH truly tries to help everyone they can and does a spectacular job at it.

As a former employee of A Helping Hand, I cannot recommend it enough. The organization provides quality care and companionship to deserving individuals in the Durham/Chapel Hill community, and employs friendly, passionate people. The office staff is incredibly helpful and works to get everyone the care they deserve.

As a volunteer and advocate for “A Helping Hand,” I am aghast having read the review statement made here questioning the lack of integrity and honesty and going so far as to pronounce the agency irresponsible. “A Helping Hand” is an outstanding award-winning agency providing companion services in Orange, eastern Chatham, Durham, and western Wake Counties. These services allow seniors and the disabled to maintain independence and quality of life. Additionally AHH prevents premature transitions to higher levels of care so that clients can safely stay in their homes or remain active in assisted
