Services
Neck Pain can result from various underlying pathologies, some serious and some benign. Causes may include injury or trauma, chronic wear and tear, and infection. The anatomy of the neck includes seven cervical vertebrae separated by intervertebral disks, eight cervical nerves as well as cartilage and ligaments.
The carpal tunnel is an opening in the wrist formed by the carpal bones and the transverse carpal ligament. Carpal tunnel syndrome is the compression of the median nerve as it passes through this space. The median nerve functions to provide sensation and motor function to the thumb and middle three fingers.
Degenerative disk disease results from the weakening of one or more intervertebral disks. These disks provide a shock-absorbing function to the spinal column. They run almost the whole length of the spine and consist of a central fluid part, known as the nucleus pulposus, and a circumferential outer portion consisting of collagen fibers.
Failed Back Surgery Syndrome is described as a poor outcome that can result from surgery to correct a back problem. In the United States, surgeons perform an estimated 300,000 to 400,000 back surgeries annually. Approximately 20% and 40% of these operations are unsuccessful, resulting in pain that is the same or even worse than prior to the surgery.
Lumbosacral facet syndrome results from facet joint degeneration due to overuse, resulting in instability and cyst formation. The cysts can compress nearby nerve roots and cause lower back pain that radiates down the leg(s). Causes include overuse, repetitive movements, trauma, stress and strain to the lower spine, twisting motions, obesity, and intervertebral disk degeneration.
