Masks are required for all clients. However, please do not be alarmed if you see a team member without a mask while they are with a pet! Our unvaccinated team members will always be wearing masks. To limit unnecessary contact, we ask that only one person accompany the patient while in the exam room.

Services
For years, our practice has known and cared for generations of pet families from Poway, Scripps Ranch, and Rancho Bernardo. Consequently, we're proud to call this community our home, and we hope to spend many more years serving and cherishing its diverse inhabitants. I graduated from Colorado State University School of Veterinary Medicine in the same class as my wife Patricia.
Do you want your dogs and cats to live happy, healthy, full lives? Do you wish you knew how to make that happen for them? We all love our pets and want what's best for them throughout their lives. But we aren't always equipped with the right tools, information, education, or resources to truly fulfill on that goal.
Does your cat get scared when it's time to go to the vet? It's not uncommon. Between a car ride, an unusual environment, and the presence of strange, stressed dogs, going to the veterinarian can be an overwhelming experience for your feline friend. At Poway Animal Hospital, we understand coming to see us may not be your cat's favorite thing.
Artemis - This was a few weeks after we brought Arti home and this was her first visit to a swimming pool at our friend's house. She immediately claimed the pool toy as her own!. No two pets are exactly alike, and we don't believe in treating them as such. You can expect individualized attention and treatment every time you pay a visit to our animal hospital.
Even when your cat or dog doesn't appear sick, they can still benefit from regular veterinary care. Pet exams give our doctors at Poway Animal Hospital an opportunity to inspect them from nose to tail and look for any abnormalities or signs of trouble. Pets are good at hiding discomfort, and many health issues aren't apparent until they become more advanced.

Poway Animal Hospital is my choice for pet care. Dr Patti Teague has taken care of 6 of my shelties. I have been with her since her office was in Scripps Ranch. I followed her to this hospital where I met Dr Smith and Dr Shinzaki. I would never go anywhere else for treatment. They are all brilliant in diagnosing and the treatment of animals. The staff is wonderful. They are all caring and gentle and so compassionate. Having been raised surrounded by medical doctors, I know what it takes to care for patients. I see complaints about time waiting for appointments. Excellent care takes time. I trust

If you're looking to get in your dog quick, this is not the place to go. Especially if your dog is extremely ill.
I called in to see if they could check my dog in because she was super lethargic and vomiting. She refused to eat and that's when I took her to this hospital.
First off, EXPENSIVE!!! If I could have just gone to my normal vet it would have been way cheaper. It was over 1k and she was just sent home with medication after several tests.
I've gone to another vet with all blood work, x-rays, and medication for much less, by about 20%.
Second, it took them over 30 minutes

Just moved to this area and tried to find a new vet for our puppy. Checked in on time but waited for 45 minutes for the technician to see my dog. Due to the covid policy, we weren't allowed to go into the room with our dog. Then it took another 45 mins for them to call me back and checkout. I understand sometimes they are running behind. 15-20 mins waiting time is acceptable. But it took more than 1.5 hrs for the whole appointment. They can do better to respect clients time.

I was really disappointed that it took an hour to get one vaccine for my dog along with some preventive medication. I arrived right on time and had to wait a good 15 minutes for them to come and get my dog. Then, after they brought my dog back to me I had to wait another 20 minutes for my bill and the medication. I called twice to see what was taking so long and was told they were getting a lot of phone calls. Apparently, answering the phone is more important than the customer waiting in their car with their pet on a warm day. Good thing it wasn't 90 degrees outside. Not acceptable!

When we had some out of town guests bring their new puppy in we never expected that we would have to use Poway Animal Hospital's emergency services. One night the little guy developed sudden lethargy and taxed breathing and we came here after other options told us they were at capacity.
It's always emotionally trying when a fury family member suffers from a sudden medical emergency and of course a financial shock but the staff here was patient and explained the situation with updates, answering all and any questions with compassion and kindness. I'm happy to report that while the

Poway animal hospital has been amazing with caring for our cat over the last 6 years. We recently had to put him down when he developed some serious health issues that were compromising his quality of life. Poway animal hospital was amazing in helping us with that very difficult process, they answered all our questions and helped us come to the decision that putting our cat to sleep was the best thing for him. We were allowed to be in the room with him when he passed, they were very gentle with him during the process. They even sent us a potted plant after he passed with their condolences. We will

No assessment note issued following visit (literally nothing should we have needed a report for the next level of care/ER should we have needed it) just an $800+ bill (animal had elevated temperature, no care recommended to manage fever, symptoms to look for, ect.), no chart audit of previous medical records (audit attempted following our complaints), unwarranted medical assessments (distemper test completed per vet request despite vaccination records sent), difficult to obtain antibiotic despite our requests. Be very careful if you choose this facility, ask questions, please advocate for your

First appointment under quarantine circumstances could not of been better. Dr Smith called me personally when My cavalier’s exam was completed. He conversed & allowed me plenty of time for questions. We discussed his prior vaccination record & planned future appointments. Professional, Dr Smith & his entire staff were very personable & I left with complete confidence in my Jesse’s care!!!

I came here last week for an emergency appointment because I noticed my cat had a loose molar. When I took him in, I wasn't able to go in with him because of Covid and social distancing, but it took about 15 minutes for the doctor to look at him and call me back to let me know he needed some extractions and that they didn't know which teeth because he wouldn't let them look in his mouth.
They ended up doing some bloodwork and I got him back promptly. This entire appointment cost me 200 dollars and they estimated a cost of about 2000 dollars for the procedure depending on which

I am so overdue in writing this review - we switched to this vet from another in the area about a year ago. My biggest regret? That we didn't bring our dog (Wills) to this vet years prior. It does not matter who is answering their phone, doing the office intake or treating the dog - they are ALL kind, caring, respectful and above all - love animals. We have had more than a few needs to take our dog there this past year - each time we feel like we've gotten their best advice and appropriate attention. A few months back our dog started coughing in the evening and progressively got worse

I was not happy with the last vet I took my Corgi to in Ramona. I decided to try a vet in Poway and after reading reviews and I'm so glad i went to go see them. All of the staff was very friendly & helpful and the Dr. answered a lot of questions. I felt there prices were also reasonable. I think I have found Frankie a new forever vet. :-) Thank you for the great service.

I can't say enough about the outstanding and compassionate care that the veterinarians and staff provide at Poway Animal Hospital. We've been bringing our cats here since we moved to the area 9 years ago. Dr. Teague took outstanding care of our two senior cats until they passed two years ago. Now we have two new Egyptian Mau youngsters and are getting the same great care from Dr. Smith as well. I highly recommend PAH to family and friends. My daughter takes her cats here now too.

I was referred here by my personal dentist for dental work for my dog. My dentist was very complimentary of the doctors and the support staff. Right now my little guy is under anesthesia getting procedures that normally would have me fretting.
Not this time.
The bedside manner of Dr. Smith and the calm the assistants and front desk staff project has me feeling fine about my little guy.
Besides being medically competent, making a nervous pet owner feel confident about the procedure is key to this review.

I wish I could give this clinic 10 stars but I can only do 5. The staff are friendly, kind, and professional. My cat's hip got dislocated and I took him to Dr Smith. That was the first time I was trying Poway animal hospital. My cat was only six months and Dr smith did the most amazing job to fix him. All the other clinics asked for over 3000 dollars for the surgery but I only paid about half the price here. If you have pets and you want them to be healthy and happy then you gotta go to this hospital. Highly recommended.

I took my Frenchie pup here yesterday to get his puppy vaccines and it was a very pleasant experience. Everyone on staff were so friendly, the vet tech was high energy and fun you can tell she really loves her job. The doc was so sweet and stayed long enough in the exam room to have a chat with me about how much work puppies are lol as I was complaining about how hard it has been and compared having a puppy to my toddler haha.
Entire experience was great, I'm glad I chose this office.

Loving pet owners please BEWARE of this place!! I reall try to not be the one to give place horrible reviews but these people honestly do not care about your animals. I'm going to tell a story:
It all started when my puppy seemed a bit ill couple months ago. We took her in to get checked and they prescribed her medication to take for parasites. Paying for the medication and everything that day. they later on send another additional saying we owed them $60.00 dollars for the check up too... okay? So why wasn't I billed that the same time I paid for my puppy's medication? Anyways

I take my time to search high and low for good care for my fur babies and this place has exceeded my expectations! We bring our 8 year old and 2 year old cats and our border collie puppy here for all concerns and needed exams. Dr. Smith is always so informative, helpful, and honest (which is a rare quality in today's world!) Some key moments that highlight this are: our kitty having eye issues with a simple and clear explanation/fix from Dr. smith versus surgery that previous vets had tried to sell us in with a big price tag, our pup having signs up hip dysplasia with a thorough and consultative

I have been taking my 5 year old doberman here to see Dr. Smith since he was a puppy. I absolutely love Dr. Smith - he always takes the time to listen to and address all my concerns, no matter how minor. I have also been able to email him pictures/video of my dog with my questions and he always calls back or responds reasonably quickly (obviously he has to see other patients or may not be in the office that day). If it's more urgent, I would call the front office and they will usually advise you or put you in contact with one of the vets.
