Castillo's Hillside Shire Winery
It is our desire at the Shire, to treat you to our smooth and savory blends which will captivate the most unquenchable palate. Our Oak aged, handcrafted wine is a drinkable gem born form vineyards infused by the peaceful surroundings that only nature can provide. We have been privileged to plant, to nurture and to harvest the clusters of fruit that hang in abundance from the vines that decorate the hillside.

We welcome you to experience the offerings of the vines in the comfort of the gardens of the European Styled Estate. Each day in the tasting room, magic occurs. Arrive and instantly slip back into the real you. Relax and meet with others who appreciate wine, art, conversation and music. Friendships are made as you stroll through the grounds which rise up to greet you with a calm and soothing embrace.

This place is terrific. I went years ago in 2017 when I graduated college with my family and had a lovely time on the grounds sipping wine and enjoying the view. Now almost 5 years later I became a member! Unlimited tastings on the weekend and they are pet friendly (as long as your pet is friendly) because they have the family cat roaming the grounds as well. Will be back this weekend!!

Hands down my favorite vineyard in the area. I spent a few hours here just hanging out, learning the history of the property from Vivienne, and enjoying the gorgeous views. I came back the next day I liked it so much! The wine is 10/10 not one is bad if you like red wine /Cabs. They are GREAT

LONG HISTORY OF HORRIFIC CUSTOMER SERVICE REVIEWS. Unfortunately, despite the short and abrupt email correspondence from RoniJo, I went against my better judgment and planned a bridal shower here.
Guests beware, RoniJo and daughters treat their guests like burdens rather than paying customers.
Whenever I asked clarifying questions upon arrival and throughout the event, I would get long-winded responses how they could not meet needs per the original agreement. There was no sense of organization or direction because they were so focused on providing minimal service.

What a sweet little spot!
We stopped by during our mid-point Bike Ride and so glad we did.
Loved their Petit Syrah and Cab Franc.

Vivian is so nice, kind, knowledge and best of all, super humble! You are seating there talking with the wine makers sister and the art designer for the wine bottle labels and she was as nice as one could be!

She is also the lovely lady with the blue hair that these people down below are talking about.
I don't comprehend the hate she was absolutely a PLEASURE to spend the afternoon with. Top notch customer service in my opinion.

We are for sure adding

BEWARE. DO NOT COME HERE.

The older woman who owns the property and her daughter, Vivienne, are unprofessional and condescending. They treat people as if they are a burden. It's a shame because their property is beautiful, but they've been open in the past that they opened the winery in order to get the permit to build their home. Read past reviews on here. Basically, they're not here because they're passionate about wine like other winery owners in the area. They're here to use their customers in order to pay their bills and live in that home. Their bad attitude is well

HORRIBLE, DISRESPECTFUL CUSTOMER SERVICE. Bad wine. Read their reviews, especially the accounts of racist remarks. Their home may be nice, but it's not worth it when you're treated like crap. The owners' daughter, Vivian, especially likes to argue with customers. Roni Jo isn't any better.

They had the opportunity to make thousands from us, but instead gave us attitude with every question we had as if we were a burden to them. Instead of saying it would cost extra for the simple requests we had they yelled at us and told us it wasn't part of the original agreement. Mind

Pretty grounds, such potential to be a great business. Too bad the owners are ridiculously rude and snotty, and treat their paying customers like horse manure. I am absolutely disgusted.

I was there for a bridal shower and honestly shocked at how we were spoken to the minute we got there. As we were trying to navigate a parking spot (there isn't clear signage) we were rudely told we need to park "down there" cause she "lives here and doesn't even get to park up here" ok, where? She doesn't show us or tell us where down there is, just walks away. Apparently

The winery grounds are very pretty. That's where the happiness I felt upon arrival started and finished. The customer service here, especially by the blue haired girl was appalling. It's her way or the highway. She is right and no matter what you say is wrong. She will raise her voice at you, but if you do the same, suddenly she's the victim. She fits the description of a KAREN to a T! At times I asked myself if her behavior is racially motivated.

A word of advice blue haired girl.... You need training on clearly communicating expectations. Take some classes on conflict resolution

We live close by and just wanted to come out on a Sunday so we stopped in and were so impressed by the grounds. Vivian even sang for us and was absolutely amazing. Beautiful voice, she sang an amazing romantic song I don’t think I will forget. I would have bought her song to hear it again and again! We will return!

We had a lovely afternoon at the Castillo Winery with a group of 40ppl. We sat outside at tables and the servers did the tastings at our table. We were allowed to bring in our own catering at no extra charge. The grounds are beautiful and very well kept with plenty of shade everwhere. It was wonderfully peaceful experience and I am looking forward to bringing up another group soon!

Beautiful scenery / area but horrible customer service. My friend and I went to the main room to order wine but were not even acknowledged. We waited politely by the table but gave the server (?) space as she was serving another group.

Another (white) party came in a few five minutes later to which the server greeted them enthusiastically and asked them if they have reservations.

My friend had to politely ask if there was a wine listing to view. She wasn't able to help / wasn't knowledgeable about the menu so we offered kindly to return in ten minutes once the owner returned.

I have never been so offended by an experience. I have patroned this establishment prior and even bought the cds of the son and daughter. Today we returned for a bachelorette's for my younger sister. This experience has left a distasteful taste. They started with an awkward hiccup of a strange comparison of light skinned and sun to a wine. Mind you I'm black and light skinned so I was not sure if this was a failed attempt in being humorous. We ordered a table full of tastings and 3 additional bottles. We asked for additional cups separately from our tasting glasses and were met with an

Beautiful scenery, terrible customer service. Here are three reasons our experience was awful.

1) Super slow customer service. We waited for a good 15 min in the tasting room before the blonde acknowledged us (only because the other customers told her she could help us).

2) The same girl gave us the wrong bottle and did NOT tell us until we went to pay.. she said she made an "executive decision" since they ran out of the bottle we wanted, and gave us a bottle that was double the price. They gave us a $5 discount rather than admitting to their mistake or apologizing..

3) She CHIPPED

If you want to feel like you're walking around in a fairytale look no further! This property is intimate, romantic and beautiful. I highly recommend visiting once things are open again. A hidden gem of Morgan hill.

The tasting room is located to the right of the property in a cute little cottage looking house. They treat you as if you're family so the service was great and personable. $10 a tasting when I went in June of 2020!

Been to the wine tasting and joined the club. Love the reds and am hopeful whites will be available soon.
Family is nice, friendly and involved in the community and their kids have their own band that plays in public.
Steve - I wrote this almost 10 years ago. Now we are long time friends, Jess, Roni Jo, Nate is now married and sister Vivienne still sings to us and designs all the bottle labels.
