We were told to try a local cafe while in the area. From the moment we walked in, we were in love. Everything we ever could want our own place to look and feel like was right in front of us. Saturday farmer's markets, movie on the lawn, probably the friendliest people you can meet, a cafe that feels like your in grandma's living room about to enjoy whatever yummy treat she puts in front of you.
Almost to the date a year later, we receive a text message letting us know that the cafe is for sale. We met with the owner about two days later. Five months later, morty & edna's came to be. Our goal at morty & edna's is to ensure that when you eat our food, you're eating fresh, from scratch made in house food that is made with love and will leave you feeling as if you're being hugged from the inside.

Checked out the first time today when seeking a scrumptious, healthy breakfast. Ordered avocado toast and an oat milk latte. The 1 toast piece was a small slice of wheat? sandwich bread that was topped with avocado, .5 tsp feta and a too big sprinkle of salt. The latte was bland - no coffee taste. For $16.54 including tip for order at counter I was disappointed. The owners and a cook were there but unfriendly, even brusque like I was in the way. The young female who took my order was very nice and efficient.
Next time I'll spend my $ at the grocery store on thick, truly toasted grainy

Visited my Mom in Lake Placid for the first time since the onset of COVID...And she says, I'm so glad you're here, I've been wanting to try this place! I'm so happy we did. The owners had made a great rehab of the old newspaper building, leaving some of the original building materials exposed and incorporating some great new/repurposed decor. The staff was moving very quickly but still with smile and courtesy. We both enjoyed the Cuban Sammich (sandwich special of the day and pretty sure we got the last 2...score!). Now being born in Miami, I can be a Cubano snob but this was

I was doing okay during part 1 of the pandemic. There wasn't much to do or see in Lake Placid, FL. Businesses shut down. Many never reopened including a few pretty good ones. But seriously, what a time to start a new business in a small rural town. Barely open a few months when holy hell struck the world, Morty & Edna's brought a new cuisine to this town. I grew up with foodies because of my heritage. i went on to spend 20 years in DC restaurants as a chef/manage, and the rest of my years devoted to the pursuit of food. Fine food. Fine food in American cities. Fine food around the

So glad I stumbled upon this hidden gem while up at a friend’s lake house for the weekend! Morty & Edna’s Craft Kitchen was a real treat, and as soon as you enter, it has a cozy feel to it. The interiors have this sort of country, industrial vibe, with the chalkboard upon entering and plenty of community seating. They also have many tables located outside, which would be lovely to sit at when it’s not as hot out. They have a simple menu, that has some sweet and savory options, and they also have specials. We tried some of the specials like the French Toast Casserole Skillet and the Huevos

My wife and I visited Morty & Edna's several times while on vacation for our 15th anniversary. This little gem was a highlight on our trip. Simple style dishes that are elevated to greater heights by the chef and team. Great food and a cozy, inviting atmosphere made this place a real delight. Pictured are the Notorious B.L.T. and Living On the Wedge in the background. Both delicious!

Went to visit friends who have a 2nd house in Lake Placid on Memorial day weekend.
Stopped at Morty and Edna's Craft Kitchen for lunch. Unfortunately they were so busy, they were sold out of Living on the Wedge and Edna's sandwich of the day.
So I ordered the Notorious B.L.T., avocado, candied bacon, lettuce, tomato, and herb mayo. very good.
My wife opted for the Get Him To the Greek, quinoa tossed with cucumber, heirloom tomato, peppers, olives, and onions with a feta vinaigrette. Also very good.

Nestled in a quiet but beautiful section of downtown Lake Placid called Journal Plaza, this restaurant is sure to please your palate.
As soon as you step in the door you can smell how much time and effort is put in at Morty and Edna's Craft Kitchen!
The ambiance and decor is perfect for the setting and it really makes this Lake Placid Jem a place to remember.
When you walk up to the counter Smiles warmly greet you.
I recommend going with your gut feeling and order what you are comfortable with. That's what I did and I don't regret it.
Needless to say, Every item I have ordered Soo far has

Holy God this place is amazing! My friends and I came here and were immediately enthralled with the sandwiches being made so naturally we needed some. My 2 friends ordered the BLT with avocado and we each had lavendar lemonade. I of course stole half a sandwich so I wasn't left out of this magic. If you get the opportunity GO! This sandwich was incredible. I'm not really a fan of BLTs but this was so good- so much flavor and ridiculously thick slices of bacon. Don't even get me started on the lemonade.
Also, the service went above and beyond anything. They were super helpful and

What a fantastic sandwich! I had the best BLT of my life today and I don't say that lightly. I'm sixty something years old, traveled and eaten out thousands of times and this sandwich was that good! Here is the menu entry for your perusal-
----
THE NOTORIOUS B.L.T.
Avocado, candied bacon, lettuce, Tomato & herb mayo $10 + chicken $3
---
Note, I did add the chicken, so this was a $13 sandwich. Not something I'd do every day for lunch but so worth it! Take a look at my picture. The sourdough was grilled to absolute perfection. The added chicken was super moist, and the veggies

Even though I live in a rural area of Florida, I'm lucky to live close enough to Morty&Edna's to eat there weekly. Joey and Eli are the perfect couple...he's a fabulous chef and she's a fantastic baker. Each day they're open, they come up with an awesome sandwich, meal, and dessert. I usually eat all three! Their candied bacon, which should be a requirement for most orders, is the best around! You can't go wrong with breakfast or lunch...just get there before they run out or you'll have to wait a day for more.

My husband and I came to Lake Placid all the way from Arizona to visit his dad and found this place on Google maps. I'm SO GLAD we did! The food was fabulous and better than we ever imagined. We had The Edna, The One With The Sloppy BLT, and the Eggs Your Way Boss. Absolutely delicious and we can't wait to come again!

Greatest owners ever! But here's the kick... even if they were mean as snakes we'd still come back here to eat because it's just that darn delicious!!!
The ambience of this restaurant is as cute as the owners, but it's the food that will keep you coming back. My wife's tuna sandwich brought her back to childhood. It was moist and delicious, and the bread tasted as if it just came out of the oven. My pulled pork sandwich almost brought tears to my eyes on the very first bite. It was sweet, unbelievably tender, and slow roasted to perfection.
Now let's talk dessert

Great location, great ambiance, great people and just a very inviting restaurant and area. Absolutely love the decor of the place and the menu is so clever. Especially the kiddie menu. We had Cuban sandwiches. It has to be the best Cuban I have ever had!!!. My daughters are not big on these types of sandwiches, but they tried it and devoured it.
Joey and Eli are very talented and are the perfect match and team. Everyone will be so lucky to have them in their area! Definitely must try. You will not be disappointed!
