Our exceptional team of certified hand therapists have over 125 years of combined experience and are uniquely skilled in establishing individualized treatment programs to match patient needs and surgeon protocols. We pride ourselves on our holistic, individualized, patient-focused approach to evaluation and treatment of various orthopedic injuries, disorders, and diseases of the upper extremity.
When seeking medical attention for an injury or following surgery of the upper extremity, it is extremely important to find a doctor who specializes in the shoulder, arm, wrist, or hand. The same philosophy goes for your hand therapist, the person who continues and complements the care initiated by your doctor.

The concept for HANDS-ON REHAB was forged on the belief that all patients referred to a hand therapy practice need to be treated in a professional, ethical manner by a therapist and not a therapy care extender who is not fully trained or certified.
It was the mid 1990s when huge corporations were acquiring private therapy practices and creating therapy "factories" where patients were evaluated by a therapist but most of their care was administered by an aide with less training.Joan Sullivan, MA, OTR, CHT, Dennis DeStefano, DDS, MA, OTR, and Sally Poole, MA, OTR, CHT decided to form their own professional corporation, Hands-On Rehab.

Megan graduated from the NYU Occupational Therapy program in 2009, and has since worked with the top surgeons in New York City, designing innovative treatment plans and splinting techniques to complement their exceptional skill. She has extensive experience in wound care, sports medicine and rehabilitation, as well as RSI and ergonomic assessment.
There are many advantages to a surgical procedure: long-lasting pain relief, better hand, wrist, elbow and shoulder function, and an overall improvement in quality of life. Unfortunately, most surgical procedures alone cannot eliminate your issue. A structured rehabilitation and treatment plan will complement the skilled work of your surgeon, giving you the highest probability of a swift and full recovery.
Hands-On Rehab is happy to announce the availability of a Full-Time Hand Therapist position. CHT preferred, or minimum of two years' experience in hand therapy. We are looking for a therapist with a warm, therapeutic and upbeat personality to match our dynamic team. The position involves working closely with top New York hand surgeons in the evaluation and management of a wide variety of upper extremity conditions.

As an orthopedic hand surgeon, I really depend on hand and physical therapists. The better the therapist, the better the patient does. The therapists at Hands On Rehab have been nothing short of outstanding. They spend time with my patients, communicate effectively, and have helped my patients achieve excellent outcomes. Thank you especially to the CHTs: Karina Manzano, Megan Horowitz, Sally Poole, and Cathy Amar! Keep up the great work!

I was involved in a car accident about a year ago where I sustained a broken hand and had trauma to my shoulder. I was referred to Hands-On from a friend and decided to seek Occupational Therapy from them. It was the best advice that I followed in recent years. The entire staff contributed to my overall recovery progress. My thanks go out to Patty for always being flexible with scheduling. My humble gratitude to my therapists, Karina, Cathy, Jenny, Megan, Michelle and Sally for their attention to detail, professionalism and kindness. A special shout out to Vicky, Grace, Molly and Izzy for their

I had my first appointment yesterday and I can only say that I'm incredibly impressed so far.
The process began with calling their office number and a super helpful person walked me through the process of scheduling my first evaluation appointment. That appointment takes about 1 hour and reviews your issues at great detail. We also started the treatment right away and I received a customized exercise plan for home too.
Scheduling an appointment is a bit tough as they are in high demand but they call you if a last minute cancellation occurs. I was fortunate and only had to wait 2 days.

Had hand therapy here after breaking a finger on my right hand. Therapist Karina was terrific, provided great massages, therapy and exercises to reduce the swelling and help me regain use of the hand. Assistant Vicky was always upbeat and helpful. The atmosphere is friendly and supportive, and the therapy was very effective. Great experience. My orthopedist was pleased with my improvement.

I had a wonderful experience at Hands-On Rehab! My doctor said they were the absolute best place to go for OT after my De Quervain's surgery. I worked with almost every therapist and they were all extremely knowledgeable and kind. They have flexible scheduling and always did their best to help me with whatever I needed. Highly recommended!

I broke both wrists, had surgery and in-patient rehab, needed ongoing PT for months. So grateful for these people; Megan, Vicky, and Pat are all knowledgeable and caring. As my therapist, Megan inspired trust and optimism during a dark time; from Day 1, I felt lucky to have found her. Recovering is a long painful slog, but coming here is uplifting and even enjoyable.

In June 2018, a softball collided with my glove just wrong and shattered the larger knuckle of my left ring finger. I had emergency surgery to get five pins put in (which were then removed a month later). Lisa from Hands On worked with me from day 1, creating a custom splint, teaching me to care for my pins so they would not get infected or… damaged, and working me through the process of regaining motion. Now, seven months of hand therapy later, my surgeon says that if I hadn't specifically had Lisa and Hands On, I would absolutely not be able to make a fist or get my finger fully straight

Incredibly well skilled, safe and very friendly!
I had surgery to reattach the completely ruptured tendon on the top of my hand, third finger by Dr. Steve Lee at NY Orthopedics (magnificent surgeon). On the top of the list of rehab centers Dr. Lee gave me during my one week review with him were these proffesionals.
I immediately stopped by and Lisa Dominick got right in to getting my splint put together and starting me on her twice per week program for recovery. Thanks to her I'm just short of 12 weeks post op and am nearly 100% recovered. Hand repair is delicate and easy to screwup during rehab

I had wrist reconstruction surgery in which my scapholunate ligament was replaced. It was a tough recovery, but the folks at hands-on rehab were really excellent. I worked mostly with Megan, but pretty much had the chance to work with all of their OTs at one time or another. Everyone was excellent. They paid close attention to my progress and always pushed me to make great strides in my recovery. Everyone there was as friendly as can be which made the hour-plus long OT sessions seem like a blink. My doctor (from Hospital for Special Surgery) was always pleased with the work they were doing at Hands
