Sr. GrandMaster Yu, a 9th-Dan, World-Class, Internationally Recognized GrandMaster, has dedicated more than a half century to Martial Arts. His expertise includes study, practice, and choreography of various traditional Martial Arts, including Kumdo (Swords) and Artistic Weaponry, with the goal of promoting unity of body, mind and spirit.
Master S.H. Yu Martial Arts' program for Adults & Teens is based on the traditional martial arts - Tae Kwon Do, Hapkido, Dansudo, Farang-do, Karate, Kung Fu, Judo, Kumdo and ancient weapons. KinderKarate, our dynamic preschool program is offered year round, Tuesday and Thursday, 4:00-4:40pm. Bring your favorite preschooler to a true martial arts experience: We will accept a maximum of 10 children per class session.
The Home for Quality Kids Karate classes in Oak Park, IL since 1994, and still growing strong! We believe the development of a child is an important undertaking. Sr. GrandMaster Yu has devoted his life to successfully leading children to realize their potential. Training in martial arts for kids leads to happy, healthy, well-balanced children with the life skills to succeed in a demanding society.

KinderKarate classes are taught by Master Wilson, who holds a Masters in Social Work, along with a Certificate in Early Childhood Education.

As a Black belt parent, and now a Yellow belt student, I am so proud to be a part of this Dohjong. My daughter excelled in the youth program for many years. The instruction is clear, inspiring, and structured. As an older student, my practice is helping me with all of my fitness, both mentally and physically. In my roughly twelve years studying with Sr Grandmaster Yu, I have not only gained the technical skills, coordination, and flexibility associated with learning martial arts, but also the determination and discipline required to purse any goal and improve any other aspect of my life. Sr Grandmaster Yu, Master Wilson, and the other instructors are patient and encouraging, building confidence and artistry in their students. The dojhang is a welcoming place for anyone who wants to learn traditional martial arts. I absolutely recommend Master SH Yu Martial Arts!

Five years ago, I was looking for a place for my family to study martial arts. When I walked into the Master SH Yu dojhang, I knew I had found the right fit. The level of knowledge, experience, professionalism and care is above all others. Senior Grandmaster Yu is a teacher in the study of martial and a mentor in living your best life. My husband and I have been taking classes with Grandmaster Yu for almost six months. We both have previously practiced martial arts individually and have tried many other schools. We have been really impressed with everything about the school. We signed up with the intention of coming twice a week and we find ourselves trying to come as much as possible. All the instructors are knowledgeable and patient. The curriculum is well thought out and there is great emphasis on discipline and respect. There are adult classes four times a week and they start late enough that we can easily make it after work

My son was a student for many months at the school before we moved out of state. Let me say this is by far the best karate school ever on the planet! I was overly pleased with the structured skills taught by Master Yu. They were impressive! The fact that the energy in the building is extremely positive had me sold upon entering. I joined Grand master Yu’s school in July 2017 and after 6 months, I can say that everything about this school is great! First, the Dojang is beautiful. It has a large matted area that provides a lot of space for practicing, and it is always clean. Grand Master Yu teaches a style that combines traditional Korean martial arts with several other Asian martial arts. This is so much more than punching and kicking! My family and I have been students at this martial arts school since 2002. My now adult children (ages 20 and 19) began at ages 5 and 4, respectively, then I joined a few years later. The lessons experienced here helped us immensely in many aspects of our lives, both on and off the mat.
