Lifespan Family Healthcare in Newcastle is pleased to announce that Steve Feder, DO, a nationally recognized pediatric physician, has joined the practice team and will be seeing patients starting in November. Dr. Feder treats children from birth to early adulthood. He provides comprehensive pediatric health services including wellness check-ups, sports physicals, treatment for common childhood ailments, immunizations, and minor in-office surgical procedures.

Born and raised in Maine, he received his medical degree in 1993 from Loma Linda University in southern California, and residency training in Family Medicine at Middlesex Hospital, Middletown, Connecticut. He was awarded board certification by the American Board of Family Medicine in 1997.
After serving 4 years as a family physician and flight surgeon in the US Air Force, he married Rebecca and took a position with a large family medicine practice near Washington DC, where he worked nearly 4 years before moving back to Maine to start Lifespan Family Healthcare.

Also a native to Maine, Rebecca received her M.S. in Marriage and Family Therapy / Human Development from Virginia Tech, Northern Virginia Graduate Center, in 2003. Rebecca provides marriage, family, and individual counseling for ages six and up at Lifespan Family Healthcare.
While in Northern Virginia as a graduate intern and resident, she provided individual, marriage, and family therapy in a variety of settings including the following: a university-based family counseling clinic (children, couples, and families), a county-based substance abuse program for high-risk adolescents and their parents, a private multi-disciplinary counseling center, and a private practice.

Originally from Windham, Maine, Shane earned his Masters degree as a Physician Assistant from the University of New England in 2007. He holds both state and national certification as a Physician Assistant. He completed his undergraduate studies at the University of the Nations in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii in tropical medicine & Community Development in 1991, and Texas Tech.
Sandy studied accounting at West Texas State University, until she began volunteer work oversees living and working in Belize, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Chile and the Philippines. With her husband Shane, they directed a non-profit organization, working in remote villages doing community development projects, working with medical teams and doing relief work.

Avoid. Our family had a miserable experience with this practice when using for caring for elderly parents. The key to a good medical practice, at a minimum, is good communication. That was severely lacking with Lifespan. Recommend good practice in Wiscasset, as one alternative. Hope this is helpful.
