Cross-Rhodes
Locally and family owned since 1984, Cross-Rhodes was the dream of Chicago entrepreneur, Jeff Russell. Jeff's goal was to share his love of Greece and its culinary treasures with Evanston and the Chicago area. His secret was simple: combine authentic recipes with genuine service in a warm and welcoming atmosphere.

Cross~Rhodes was born and has become a favorite restaurant for families throughout Evanston, Chicago, and the North Shore for more than 35 years. The menu features authentic Greek dishes, including lamb chops, gyros, souvlaki, mousaka, pastitsio, Greek-styled chicken, feta and olives, greek salads, pita sandwiches and much more.
Services
The inspiration for CROSS-RHODES came just two years prior when, on a vacation in the small town of Avia in the Southern Peloponnese of Greece, Jeff met his future wife, Georgia. They were married in Kalamata, Greece in 1982. Together, they returned to the United States, along with a plan to bring a little bit of Greece home with them.
However, there are many people struggling and in need of a hot meal and we want to be as helpful as we can. Cross-Rhodes has supplied many shelters and soup kitchens in the past with our food and we feel now, more than ever, it's our responsibility to keep up the good work!. We invite you to help us help others.
A gift certificate to local restaurant is the perfect way to tell someone Thank You! Happy Birthday! I love you! Congratulations!.or just. Hey, go have some fun! Not only are you giving someone the gift of a great meal, but you're also supporting local, family-owned, independent Evanston businesses like Cross-Rhodes.
Cross~Rhodes restaurant is located in south Evanston just north of Main Street. We are just a gyros throw away from the Main Street El stop with (generally) plenty of metered street parking on Chicago Avenue. Other nearby businesses include Sketchbook Brewing, Dave's Down To Earth Rock Shop, Chicago-Main Newsstand, Belgian Chocolatier Piron and the American Toby Jug Museum.

I ordered lunch today for my client and I and the food was absolutely horrendous. The chicken was completely dried out the rice was so gummy and sticky it was worse than something you get an a frozen meal. To make matters worse they charge $15 per meal plus without my knowledge charged another 220 for some sauce that I expected would come with it not that I would pay extra for. I will definitely not be recommending this place to anyone and I won’t be visiting again. Frankly they get better food at Dengeos

The standard I judge all other gyros by! Also everything else on the menu I have had is quite tasty - highly recommended!

I've been going here for years solely for the Greek fries! Perfect anytime but especially when you get off the CTA Main stop after being stuck at the Howard stop in the dead of winter. They are crispy but soft and everything a potato should be-- salt and vinegar potato chips in fry form!
Cash only!

One of my favorite places to eat! Heads up they are a cash only restaurant.. Portions are huge and well priced! I LOVE their Lemon rice soup and their gyro dinner and pitas. To die for chocolate cake from local bakery! Staff is always friendly! They have reduced the number of tables for eat in due to COVID in an already small dining area so if you are eating in, there might be a wait on the weekends and make sure to tip well as the staff have fewer tables. Usually metered street parking right in front.

My mom's going to write more below but basically the shell Mac and cheese combined with the corn bread was my favorite part of Thanksgiving.... Ok now my mom...

You may not have thought of Cross-Rhodes for a traditional Thanksgiving feast, but man, did they DELIVER and I mean that literally and figuratively!!-Mom

I found this restaurant on-line. I decided to try it out based on the rating here. Upon arriving I went to the counter to review the menu. I noticed the prices were different from the copy of the Cross-Rhodes Rhodes menu listed on this site. When I brought it to the attention of the girl working the counter I was informed, in a very condescending tone, the the menu I was looking at was on the google site. If I wanted to see the correct pricing I would need to go directly to their site. It was apparent that the restaurant is aware of the outdated menu on this site and could update it if they wanted

This is one of the best, no-nonsense mom-and-pop/family diners in town. Cash only, which is important to know as well as kind of symbolic of the old-school mentality you'll run into here. It's my go-to for spanakopita, and we would live on the Maria fries if we could. Portions are substantial and prices are low. Service is brisk -- your order will usually be ready in less than ten minutes even at peak times. I haven't been to Greece but I've been to numerous other Greek restaurants in Chicago's Greektown and elsewhere. Cross-Rhodes may not be as fancy as some of those Greektown establishments,

One of my favorite places for delicious Greek chicken. I have been going here for well over a decade and not much has changed other than the prices. They even have the same wait staff who always seem to remember you no matter how long it's been since you were there. A bunch of us ordered the Greek chicken, there was one skirt steak, and one chicken souvlaki. We all got either a salad (Greek) or lemon chicken rice soup. Half ordered each and everyone was happy with their selections. Chicken came with Greek fries that are sitting in the vinegar, olive oil and oregano juice. The same for the

Really solid Greek food with a great neighborhood feel and very friendly service. The souvlaki is really nicely seasoned and juicy and the Greek fries (with herbs and a lemon/white wine sauce) are excellent. Gyros and Greek salad are also quite good. Generous portions as well.

Today I was craving for what I used to advertise as the best burger in Evanston but my experience was far from what I expected. My burger was messed up for cooking temp to toppings and bun... completely uneatable
When I let the server know her reply was " if we make you another burger is gonna be the same because it will come from the same case of meat, proceeded to order something else and this time the souvlaki was dripping blood a no no for pork meat. I asked for the check and mentioned to the server the bad experience I was having with the food today and how it surprised me because my

Delicious food at a great price, you can't go wrong with anything you order from Cross-Rhodes.
Somehow, I lived in Evanston for about 3 years before discovering that Cross-Rhodes exists (which is now one of my biggest regrets). Their portions are generous, they put orders together in a flash, and the food is nothing short of delicious. I've sampled… quite a few things on their menu so far and I have to say that their gyros are my favorite. That being said, I just ordered their Meat Family Meal which is contending for that top spot. Split between just myself and a good friend, we ate to our

I love the food here! I have been coming since I was a child. I ordered some food tonight and sat to wait for it. Customer after customer came and picked up their food and each time she offered them a free dessert. My food was ready and just like last time I was here I was not offered a free dessert. Pretty rude to treat your customers differently right in front of them.

Tried Cross-Rhodes for the first time last week after walking past it a million times. I ordered the gyros dinner and it was a huge amount of food for only 12.50! I subbed fries for rice and they were crispy and very tasty.

I was able to stretch the dinner into three different meals - a very generous portion and just as delicious days later.

They also were giving away complimentary rolls of toilet paper and chocolate bars from Belgian Piron Chocolatier.

Staff was friendly, helpful, and were taking good safety precautions amidst the pandemic. The food was ready very quickly and was very fresh
