It started way before that time with an idea, a young college girl, and an adventurous spirit. While traveling in South America after graduation from UVA, I began collecting artisan products such as Panama hats, alpaca sweaters, and handicrafts from the local markets.
With a love of fashion instilled in me by a grandmother who was an a accomplished dressmaker and a very creative mother, I had learned to sew at an early age and had fine-tuned a love of textiles and design.With this background I had a keen eye for spotting valuable and interesting offerings from the local markets held in the villages of Ecuador and Peru.

I have shopped at The Phoenix for years and it is absolutely my favorite place to find unique pieces of superior quality that last for years and never go out of style for my wardrobe. I always leave looking and feeling beautiful and powerful from the the clothes and the experience. The store has a welcoming sense of community that has a strong and loyal following where women come from other states to shop at The Phoenix when in town. I love shopping there and it is the only place I've shopped where you get the experience of having a Personal Shopper like Kay work with you. She is fantastic at always finding exactly what I like and presenting tops, pants, dresses, accessories that I would

I have shopped for my wife at the Phoenix for the past decade. The store has always been unique and friendly to men shopping for their significant other. It is not generally easy or comfortable for men to shop for their wives. Often sales people just ignore you or wonder why are you there? But the owner and staff at the Phoenix have always made me feel comfortable and welcome, spending a lot of time helping me find the perfect items, which I always do. I love this store and I always find good things here. Once I changed my mind and decided that I wanted a shirt that I had tried on but not bought after I had returned home out of state. I called them up and it was mailed within a few days. There are alway very current high end brands here and this store seems to get them before the other places.

I entered the store, not quite sure what to expect, but the ladies working were able to help me throw together some very fun, and modern pieces to make a very unique outfit!
Their professionalism, and obvious passion for fashion made it a memorable experience!

Lately I've been in the store on two occasions and had a very good customer experience. I was looking for several special occasion outfits and found a pair of trousers that fit me perfectly- which is hard to do because I am petite. I wasn't sure about the top so I said I'd come back and to my surprise the owner was there and found several perfect tops for different outfits. I recommend Phoenix!

About three weeks ago, I put a pair of shoes on layaway. Last week I went to pay on the shoes and discovered that they were now on sale, but that I would not be able to get the sale price. Although, surprised and disappointed, I paid on the shoes and left. On Sunday, Sept 10th I went to get the shoes out of layaway and determined never to shop at Phoenix again. Karma would have it that when I arrived to the store, I turned the door knob (as instructed) and entered the store but no one was there. I shouted HELLO several times, and finally realized that the store was closed BUT that the front door

I had to give it two stars for the fabulous clothes, but sadly the owner is unkind and unwelcoming. I used to shop there when in graduate school, but this summer stopped by on the way to the beach. The owner literally took something from my hands to to refold it before I could set it down without one ounce of kindness or gratitude for being in her boutique. All of her energy must go into buying and treating her well known customers kindly and the rest of us are an annoyance.
