Middendorf-Bullock Funeral Homes
Nearly 150 years ago, Wilhelm Middendorf began a livery service. As was customary of the times, since services were held in the deceased's home, church, or at the cemetery, the funeral director, in lieu of having a funeral facility, would come to the home of the family to make all arrangements and preparations.

The original Middendorf Funeral Home was located on 12th and Madison Avenues in Covington. In 1929, John N. Middendorf (Wilhelm's son) purchased the current location at 917 Main Street in Covington. After John N.'s passing, his sons, Charles and John W. Middendorf, continued operating the business.
Services
Located in Covington's Historic Main Strasse District, the 19th century manse was originally built as a private residence for the Riedlin family, owners of the Bavarian Brewery. According to a Kentucky Post article written by Jim Reis, William Riedlin was one of the most active people in the Northern Kentucky German-American community.
This branch of the Middendorf-Bullock Funeral Homes was built by Philip Taliaferro in 1929. Mr. Taliaferro had been an undertaker in Erlanger since 1914. This was the first funeral home in northern Kentucky to be built strictly as a funeral home, not converted from a former residence. The Bullock Funeral Home, owned by Wilfred E. "Shorty" Bullock and his son, W. Daniel Bullock, operated the business from 1980 to 1988.
Mr. W.A. Bullock established a funeral service in Hebron in 1902, where he also ran the General Store and was Hebron's Postmaster. At that time, visitations were usually held in a person's home and the funeral service was either held at the home or at the church. Mr. Bullock was investigating the purchase of what is the present Hebron funeral home at the time of his death in 1933.
With over 85 years of combined experience in funeral service, Middendorf-Bullock Funeral Homes are pleased to have long-tenured employees that offer compassionate and dignified service. It is our goal to serve each family as we would like to be served.
