My daughter attended the Lighthouse from the time she was 3 until it was time for her to go to kindergarten. Not only did we absolutely love the care that she received, but we are happy that she had a great foundation of skills for her start in elementary school. What a wonderful place for children to learn and grow.
In the short time my son was there he learned so much and was always excited to go to school and see his friends. My son learned so much at The Lighthouse. Ms. Young is very dedicated to preparing children for kindergarten. There are so many activities and age appropriate toys. The children learned colors, numbers, shapes and so much more.

As an experienced childcare provider and mother, I understand how important trust is when it comes to day care for your children. Over my 25 years of experience in caring for children, my goal has always been to provide a stable, loving environment for any child that came into my life. That became even more of a priority for me when I started my in-home day care, The Lighthouse, in 2001.
Infants are unique individuals whose needs vary from moment to moment. Teachers in the preschool's infant program respond sensitively to each child's signals to provide consistent care. We understand that during infancy, as at every other stage of growth, cognitive, social, emotional, and physical needs are intertwined.
Lighthouse Preschool & Daycare believes that developing healthy eating habits is a fundamental skill that all young children need to have. We strive to provide a variety of nutritious meals and healthy snacks that will nourish your children throughout the day. In addition to the sample meals shown below, your child will also receive an afternoon snack.

When it comes to your children you expect a high level of both professionalism and sensitivity to your child's development. This was well below expectations. The priority of this establishment seems to be the almighty dollar. As one would expect, you have to make money to survive but the owner makes you pay to keep your child enrolled regardless of weeks of non attendance and seems more concerned about the fact you pay then your own Childs well being. An aggressive tone was also taken towards my child when I was there. God knows how the kids are treated when the parents are not present. Go elsewhere

Unfortunately I have to rate this facility with one star. My family and I had our son there for only one week and then we had to pull our son out due to poor staffing, in adequate communication in advance regarding changing of hours, and unprofessionalism of the Director. The facility has a lot of potential but if not adequately staffed seems to pose a serious headache for other families.

We loved our time at Lighthouse. We utilized the infant care. I can honestly say they cared greatly for our little guy. We loved their use of the Procare app which sends you daily text updates about diaper changes/feedings/curriculum/needed supplies... AND photos throughout the day! It was also a super fast and quick way to get a hold of the teachers and director. So much more effective than the old school paper sent home at end of day. They provided the food for our baby with exception of formula which adds to the value of the cost (bc buying it on your own does even out the cost). The facility

Importantly, through the time of this COVID pandemic Lighthouse initially closed, but after evaluating safety measures and talking with parents, they re-opened with even higher standards of cleanliness and care for everyone's safety. This daycare is so great for the children. The employees work hard to ensure the children are in a warm and fun environment! As a former employee, the director and all the staff works to highlight each students uniqueness. Everyone works together to make sure that the children are learning and enjoying their time when they come to school!

She is phenomenal with children. Her nurturing extends past their physical needs but she nurtures their social-emotional growth as well. She plays games with them, teaches them how to read, and even ensures that they are prepared to enter the school system well beyond the expectations. Her day care center is extremely clean, family-oriented, and she is an amazing provider. If you are seeking a day care provider, your search should stop here.

I've known the owner of this daycare all my life and many of my life experiences as a child myself we're great with her.. she's a dedicated person when it comes to her field of work...alot of patience,very caring and dependable...she was my choir director with a group of more then 10 people...very aware of who each one was...I'm saying that to say I'm 38 now with my own kids that love her dearly...she is a great teacher and has over 30 years of experience dealing with kids and I know she would never put them in harms way, if I can't trust anyone else with my kids life,I can absolutely, positively

I am so glad we chose Lighthouse Preschool after a very bad experience at another daycare. Ms Young has a beautiful center with interactive learning and exploration opportunities for the children! Our 2 children are eager to go to school every morning and are always smiling and laughing when they are picked up in the afternoon. Sometimes they even say "We dont want to go home yet!" Best choice for us!!

Trust me when I say that Lighthouse is and will always be the top preschool in Virginia with Demetria Young in charge. She has raised beautiful and successful children of her own as well as other children, like myself. She played a significant role in my life growing up in NYC. Some of my best childhood memories include her in it. She still and always will have the drive and love to raise up a child in the way they should go.
