Bluegrass Recycle
While most pickups are FREE, we must have recoverable material to stay in business. We look for newer computers, laptops, servers and similar IT equipment for recycling and recovery. Many states have already made it illegal to put e-trash in landfills. Unwanted computers and similar equipment are rapidly clogging our landfills and pose an environmental hazard.

According to an EPA report in 2009, Americans generated 3 million metric tons of unwanted electronics, only 17.7% of that was recycled. The rest was incinerated or put in landfills. Other EPA e-waste statistics estimate that 68% of people are storing their e-waste in their homes. We work with only a handful of domestic processors to ensure they have a combination of good track records as well as industry or state certifications.
Services
Bluegrass Recycle is an electronic waste, otherwise known as "E-Waste" recycling business. Our mission is to give businesses a green alternative to dispose of their electronic equipment both affordably and in an environmentally positive way. First, what is E-Waste? Electronic waste is a broad term used to describe any type of used electronics.
We are your friends and neighbors. Bluegrass Recycle is a privately owned local business. We are not funded by any state or government agency. We pay our employees a nice high rate because we know what it takes a family to survive. We pay our taxes, we buy our supplies, we use local employees, we live here and our kids go to school here.
When a cell phone is received, a brief evaluation is performed to determine its age and condition. If it's a newer working model, personal data is erased and the phone is donated or resold. If the phone is a newer phone, but not in working condition, we are able to harvest parts and use them to repair other phones.
When Bluegrass Recycle receives a server or computer, the systems are quickly evaluated as to whether they are reusable or if they are scrap. If a computer is reusable, the hard drives are destroyed and the unit is either donated, resold as a system, or parted out.

If a computer is deemed scrap (which happens most of the time), the computers are de-manufactured, asset tags and any company logos are scrapped from the case, and the hard drives completely destroyed.Individual components are sorted and separated into various commodity levels and sent downstream to industry certified domestic processors.
A server is evaluated to see if it is in working condition and can to be reintroduced to market. If it is, the hard drives are removed and completely destroyed (see photos under our Security Tab.) All distinguishing features such as labels, stickers, or identification numbers are removed, new hard drives are then inserted and the finished product is sold.

Used these guys for the first time at my company. Great guys you can chat with, showed up when they were supposed to. Went above and beyond cleaning out our large recycle bin. Looks the cleanest it's been in 10-15 years. Give them a call!

We called Bluegrass Recycling to pick up our old / surplus computer hardware that had been accumulating for some time. They quickly dispatched a truck, dropped off containers we could fill as time allowed and then promptly picked up when we were ready. Great service, we really appreciate it! I drove out to the facility on National Turnpike (very difficult to locate) and a sign on the door said to take the items to a location on So. 15th Street. I drove to the address and it doesn't exist. This is not a company I'll ever consider using again.

I moved from Lexington to Florida and had accumulated a ton of electronic stuff over the years. Bluegrass Ecycle picked up my stuff for free and away it went. They arrived when they said they would and it all could not have been easier.
