That's what I remember in that period following Hurricane Katrina. We were pretty beat up-the whole city-but people would walk into my bakery and smiles would appear. Old men with challah bread loaves under their arms, just chatting away, dropping the day-to-day anxieties if only for a few precious moments.
A little boy eating his first solid food-a croissant-and the priceless expression on his face of that first bite. There have been a lot of delays with FedEx because of the weather conditions. Our sincerest apologies, I know they're doing their best to get them to you quickly and safely. Unfortunately we're not able to offer refunds due to weather delays.

I opened a bakery because I envisioned a place for people to come together, seated in a warm inviting environment, where the aroma of fresh baked bread fills the air. I admit it's old fashioned, but I think it's something people really want. That's what I remember in that period following Hurricane Katrina.

Bagel wasn’t toasted. Cut in 1/4’s and butter only on ones side. Super soggy. Reached in the bag and got a handful of super soggy bagel and lumpy butter. Couldn’t spread it around because it was only in clumps and no knife. The worst thing was how awfully soggy and soft the bagel was. Like white bread.
I keep going back to see if the bad product production was just incidental. It’s not. After this I doubt I will be back.
Went from being excited about a tasty bagel for breakfast to angry and disgusted on my way to work.
Ruined my morning.

So unhappy. Ordered a hot chai. It came out cold! When I asked for it to be warmed up, she got it so hot I couldn’t drink for 10 minutes. I also ordered a bagel with butter and cream cheese. We waited 15 minutes for our food and my bagel came covered and dripping in butter but with no cream cheese. I’m so annoyed that I just wasted 30 minutes and 25$ on this disappointing experience. Understaffed and careless!!!

Ended up here because my normal bagel place was closed. Service was a bit lacking, waited several minutes at the counter, while two more parties came in, before being acknowledged. Was bummed there were no more plain bagels, but that's totally not their fault, I waited until after 9 am to decide I wanted a bagel. Ordered two breakfast sandwiches, and half a dozen bagels. Bagels came out quickly, the breakfast sandwiches did not. Waited almost 15 minutes for them. Which is practically forever when you're hangry. Overall, the food was solid, just not sure it was wait 15 minutes good. Chalking this

These lovely ladies make a wonderful breakfast or light lunch for you 6 days a week. I like the fantastic bagels with a sun dried tomato spread, smoked salmon, and an iced coffee to get my day going. Came for the bagels, stayed for the love.
I can’t go today, and that makes me sad. If you don’t want to be sad, start your day here!

So glad they're reopened! This place has upped their game. The quiche option is always vegetarian, so I can count on it when I can't decide what to eat. Awesome cream cheese flavors too; I got the shallot, but will try olive pimento next time. The lattes are strong and extra shots are cheap. Service is greatly improved and the space is bigger than you first think- just take a peek around the corner. Plenty of parking on the side and around back.

From cali on vacation with my wife. I got the Roast beef and gouda melt and my wife got the Gene (with ham because we went in the late morning and they ran out of Turkey). Food was awesome and decently priced but the workers and locals were super friendly and approachable which 100% made the environment better.

You're a bakery? The soggy croissant says no.
With an 8 am opening you'd think there would be enough time to stock the pastry cases with freshly baked goods But upon entry one is greeted by a motley selection of day-old slim pickings. Instead of risking stale scones my partner and I opted for breakfast sandwiches. The bagel on the lox sandwich was decent but the croissant on The Frenchie was spongy with no croissant qualities aside from its shape. With eyes closed I would have guessed it was cheap white bread. I was going to order iced tea but the clerk had to tilt the container forward

It's probably a good thing Laurel has limited hours, as close as I am to it. At 8am to 1pm, they open too late for post-workout, and I have to hurry to get lunch, but I do.
My first trip, I got the Brooklyn bagel (lox & cream cheese of course). I can't give you a New Yorker's perspective, but I enjoyed it. The first few bites lacked something, until I realized the capers weren't evenly distributed; once I fixed that I was much happier. A cranberry oat muffin also insisted on coming home with me, and it was fantastic!
I went for lunch next and got a delicious Caprese sandwich

I drive by Laurel Street Bakery ALL the time, but they have weird hours and are really only open for breakfast and lunch. I finally decided I was going to give them a try for lunch - and I now have a new favorite in the rotation!
I ordered the Gene on a croissant with Tomato Basil Soup - which was an extra $1 upcharge for the soup, totally worth it though if you enjoy tomato basil. The turkey was honey smoked and delicious, the veggies were super fresh and stacked. You can't go wrong with a turkey sandwich, but this was definitely one of the better ones I had. The croissant was also soft

Came with a friend to grab some bagels and they were delicious! I ordered an Everything Bagel with Sundried Tomato cream cheese. It was chewy on the inside and toasted perfectly on the outside. We took home a Brown Bag Special, which includes a 1/2 dozen bagels of your choice and a 1/2 pint of cream cheese spread for $13. What an amazing deal! You can also get a full dozen of bagels and 2 different 1/2 pints of cream cheeses for $25. There is also some outdoor seating and off-street parking behind the building. I'll be back to try their breakfast sandwiches and pastries next time!

This review is an average of two visits over the weekend: the first visit 1/5 and the second visit 5/5.
First visit: we came here on a Friday morning looking for breakfast because we were staying at an Airbnb down the street. I was telling the barista (didn't get her name and she was are young, black heavyset lady) what I wanted to order, and she started blatantly laughing about how I was reading off my order. She said, " I've never heard anyone say it like that before." I thought it was very rude, disrespectful, and unprofessional. We just stared at her and didn't react

Laurel Street Bakery has pleasant service and a massive menu.
I ordered the roast beef with grilled onions and chips, and a latte. The roast beef sandwich was a bit too salty and the mustard is not a good match for this. But, past that, it was great. The latte was subpar. I would try other coffee items, just not a latte again.
The location has a fee table to sit at and is very clean.
I will return to Laurel Street Bakery and I do recommend it to others.

Apparently they have parking in the back, however, I like to hold up traffic and park on broad street .
The place is small and narrow, and lightly staffed. The lady taking orders also handed us our food. We waited in line for about 5 minutes or so, however, it make be because it was Saturday late morning/early afternoon. There are a lot of people siting at a table working on laptops, so seating may be limited. We sat in the window and enjoyed the flowers and sipped water. I will say, to be a peak hipster bagel spot, one is required to have veggie or fruit infused water. But let's move onward
