Critical: Professionalism
My sister (Down syndrome) works here through a program and does amazing and has a heart of gold, we were told that a teacher complains about her and says that she’s terrible does not listen to her and every other teacher says different about my sister who ever this teacher is needs more training or needs to be removed!

I have used this provider for less than 6 months
My child was at this school for less than 6 months and we had spent the entire time wishing there was a different option around here that followed a curriculum. The teachers are rude. My daughter has an incident report almost every other day. She is not a reckless kid either. The director of this school refused to move my daughter up in class because she said there is something physically wrong with her. Because apparently that effects cognitive development? I took her to the doctor that they insisted she sees and the doctor flat out told us that

I appreciate how this school is operated, the fact there is at least one administrator on duty, usually two, and how low the teacher turnover is. I also appreciate the purchase of new toys and equipment and that the director can be seen putting things together herself! My 21 month old grandson loves it, his teachers and his friends. The other parents are supportive and as friendly as the staff and teachers.

First Step School is a Texas Rising Star provider which means we go above and beyond the Minimum Standards. I have worked at First Step for almost 12 years, it is the best Child Care Center I have ever worked for, I absolutely LOVE my job. I don't even like calling it a job because I enjoy it so mush and the kids here that I get to see every day bring so much joy to me. I have the pleasure to build strong bonds with the parents and families daily and I strive to help them in any way I can.

Having had my children in previous facilities, I can tell you now that there is no place better than First Steps Preschool. The Director ALWAYS goes above and beyond for those kids and treats them like a Teacher should! With compassion, love, education, and boundaries. My boys have emotionally and mentally soared since beginning this school. Just like any school you have to deal with parents who I have seen act out like children themselves. I've seen it every where we have been. I'm thrilled to say that is not my job. I get all the wonderful benefits of this school and I just being a parent. Lol

We absolutely love this school and staff! They are all very patient and care about each and every child. They are very friendly and family oriented. One of the major pluses for me is that they are a smaller daycare, which made me feel like my child isn't lost in a crowd. He has grown and learn so much in the 6 months he has been at First Step.

It truly saddens me that there has been some negative reviews being said about a place I have loved as kid and still do to this day. My mother used to work there in the infant room when the school first opened till she wasn't able to work anymore due to health problems. (she LOVED working there, taking care of and loving the children who walked through those doors.) And who knew years later I would also be working there in the infant room. I have been working there now going on 4 years and I can honestly say I absolutley LOVE my job !!! I LOVE all my babies and all the other children that attend

I enrolled my son in First Step when he was six months and very quickly enrolled him out for MANY reasons. I believe he only attended for 5 weeks total and only that long because they require you to give a 4 week notice and pay.
1. The nursery is only padded in small sections and the padding was very worn and falling apart and they have children learning to walk and crawl on hard floors? Seriously? All around the nursery just looked like an accident waiting to happen.
2. The ladies working in the nursery obviously hate their job and it shows with their attitude towards the children.

I find some of these negative reviews very strange. Over the last 5 years I have had to be in San Marcos very many times and with short notice needing day care for my son. First step went out of their way to help me, and my son loves it there. When I moved into the area it was the first place I wanted to work as the team were so kind and welcoming. My son continues to attend and is thriving.
