The American College of Correctional Physicians (ACCP), formerly the Society of Correctional Physicians (SCP), is dedicated to the professional development of physicians in the specialty of correctional medicine. ACCP members are united through the goal of improving public health by examining issues specific to the incarcerated and identifying solutions for medical professionals.
We meet the needs of correctional physicians through education, advocacy, networking, and avenues of communication. The ACCP supports and provides leadership to our members challenged with the internal and external obstacles to the care of the incarcerated. Correctional medicine is one of the most challenging careers, but can be one of the most rewarding.

The ACCP is the only international membership organization committed solely to the professional development and fellowship for Correctional Physicians, mid-level practitioners, and dentists, providing a venue of advocacy for us and our patients. ACCP members are united through the goal of improving public health by examining issues specific to the incarcerated and identifying solutions for the medical professionals who care for them.
Roderic Gottula - 1997-1999 Jim Hipkens was elected president for this period, but never assumed the position. Rod Gottula, who had lost the election by just one vote, was appointed by the Board to fill his seat. For me, the greatest reward has been seeing the Society grow in numbers and national prominence.
What a privilege it is to be President of The American College of Correctional Physicians. As a clinical provider working in correctional health for over 23 years I have learned to respect and admire my fellow physicians who dedicate themselves in providing adequate medical care to the incarcerated population in all correctional settings.
The ACCP is at the forefront of efforts to win specialty recognition for correctional physicians, enhancing the stature of our profession, and leading to greater public and private support. The College holds a permanent position on the Board of Directors of the National Commission on Correctional Health Care (NCCHC), providing physician input regarding professional policies and practices.
The ACCP's unique set of member benefits reflect the values and unfailing commitment of its member network. The college's programs are developed by the ACCP Board of Directors and committees to enable members to stay well-connected to each other. ACCP members may volunteer for any of several ongoing opportunities including a mentor program, CorrDocs, various committees, and the Board of Directors.
