When Sunnyside Touring opened on Irving Avenue in Bend, Oregon in the early '70s, the bike shop sold 10-speeds, skis, kayaks, skateboards, and running gear. In 1982 the shop brought in its first actual mountain bike, and the business (and the love) continues to grow from there.

To live in Bend, on the sunny side of the Cascade Mountains, was a deliberate choice for us-one that we've reflected in our name and our attitude for 45 years. We're crazy about cycling, Nordic skiing, and pretty much anything that gets us out there in the Central Oregon sunshine. And yeah, at times, we've been crazy, period.

It seems only fair to write a review for this place, even though I didn't buy anything here, because of just how honest and friendly the assistant was.
We were looking for bikes for both of our kids. We explained the sort of thing we were looking for, and she was totally honest about the fact they didn't carry that sort of thing (they are very mountain bike focussed), and actually recommended one of their competitors as a better place for us to go.
So we did, and got what we needed there.
So many shops think the right thing to sell you is whatever they have. I really admire a business

Great people, great selection (not just bikes, walk the store & see for yourself), great prices. Worked in an immediate service, rather than having to purchase another bike tool (of which I already had 3 since I can't for some reason remember to pack in the tool box), so I perused & spent way more than intended - and the service for dum-dum was free! Highly knowledgeable staff and very passionate about what they do (I've ran into a few of them on the trails as well, that's why I first stopped by their shop when I was in need).

This review is for the help we received when we stopped by to ask questions about renting snowshoes. The employee who helped us (sorry, didn't catch a name) was so thorough and patient. He put together the kids' sled that you can also rent to haul your young kids or belongings while snowshoeing. The store practices great Covid-19 precautions which is always a plus. Prices are very reasonable too. Once we're ready to snowshoe, we're going to rent from here. Also, in the summer we'll plan on renting mountain bikes here.

Unbelievably good service, my Wahoo Bike was 5 days over warranty when it died, Sunnyside took it in and worked with Wahoo to send a replacement and ship the old one back. Wahoo send a replacement for no charge and Sunnyside prepared it and shipped the bad one back with no charge to me. Both Sunnyside and Wahoo did this without any hassle. I was tremendously relieved after having spent a significant amount on the bike and feeling like I was really going to take a financial hit to get it repaired. Kudos to both Sunnyside and Wahoo for great customer service.

The staff at Sunnyside are wonderful! They're knowledgeable, accomodating, kind, and care about their customers! My husband got a bike built up by Sunnyside and throughout all the uncertainty of supply/shipping times/etc. that are completely out of their and our control, Sunnyside staff continued to communicate with my husband and were very transparent. He got his bike and has never been happier with the work done on it. I recently came in as well to get an updated fit on my road bike, and I feel like a whole new rider thanks to the time, effort, and expertise! It was the end of the day so I know

Had a fantastic bike fitting with Steele. He was super patient, explained everything in detail, and really knows his stuff. He also walked me through the various tiers of clip in shoes/pedals and wanted to find the right product for me rather than just trying to sell me the most expensive set.I also really appreciate the fantastic organization of maps/trails that you have on your website.

I appreciated the customer service and end result I got by coming to y'all! My bike is older, not fancy, but I like it, needed some upgrades and everyone of my requests was met. I took my bike on the trail right after picking it up and it felt awesome! I couldn't have been happier with my experience at Sunnyside Sports. I had my bike serviced and shipped from Sunnyside Bikes in Bend Oregon and dealt with Flynn, Matt and then Susan … the craftsmanship of repairs and cost fir shipping were exactly inline with the quote I received … my bike traveled 1,300 mikes from Bend OR. and arrived in exactly the condition I expected … Very reasonable cost for all activities … No wonder Sunnyside has been around for many years … Great service, great people, great store and a fabulous repair facility … Thanks to everyone for thus satisfying experience … m

Sunnyside Sports has taken care of me and our Trek mountain bikes for the better part of 20 years. We've bought multiple mountain bikes from Sunnyside, and they have done a great job maintaining them for us as well. Sunnyside found a crack in our oldest bike, a Trek 7000 from 1998, when it was in for service this summer. Instead of just telling me about it and moving on, Zach Starr talked to Trek about it and negotiated a 30% discount off of a new bike. That was WAY above and beyond. That really meant something to us. We appreciate it.

I flew into Bend and planned to do some training only to find that my bike was damaged during the flight. The bike was packed in a hard case but, it seems TSA did not close it properly. Anyway, I took the bike to Sunnyside Sports. I did not have an appointment but, the staff was courteous and professional. They worked on the bike on the spot while I waited. I highly recommend Sunnyside. This was my second experience with this company. Two years ago I bought my mother a Trek from them. They treated her with total respect.

World class service! I put Sunnyside in the top 5 or 10 companies I've dealt with in my life when it comes to service level. Just top notch. I've rented mountain bikes from them a number of times. The last time, we had an issue with a bike on the mountain and they drove another bike up and switched it out. Always great recommendations and pristine equipment. Not only a positive reflection on themselves but the entire Bend community.

Average service for exorbitant prices. After looking at the receipt I saw that I was charged 10 dollars to move my grips over and tighten just the bolts on the handle bars. I was also charged 8 dollars to tighten the headset: a job that quite literally requires the tighten of one bolt. I totally understand labor is money and so I'm reality they had ever right to charge me. But I think it speaks more to the fact that they can and therefore they will charge these prices than anything.

Brought a bike in for a service, within this expensive service was a full front shock flush and service job. Got the bike back next week and took it for a ride only to find my front fork was never filled back up to anything close to a rideable pressure, resulting in me bottoming out severely and crashing. I originally posted a two star review, however after contacting sunny side, Jacob the mechanic went above and beyond to help out and remedy the problem. Therefore I'm updating my review.

We were in town visiting and our sons TREK bike needed a broken spoke fixed. Sunnyside Sports was the 2nd bike shop we contacted to see if it could get fixed while on vacation. Sure enough they could fix it so we made our way down to the shop. We were greeted right away. We asked Steele who was helping us to also check the frame of the bike since the frame had damaged to it after a crash. The shop had a look over it and gave us their professional opinion that the frame was compromised and did not recommend doing any hardcore riding on it as it was a safety issue.

I went to Sunnyside Sports a week before Christmas to get a full cross-country ski setup for my lady to celebrate the holidays. I told them I'd been a local for over 20 years and owned a couple businesses in town. I asked the sales person if they were doing any sales or if there's any discounts offered for locals or business owners. She responded in a snooty tone with "What do you think we're dumb to offer sales right before Christmas?" She said they are doing a 10% off sale the day after Christmas. So I guess what she was telling me is that I asked a dumb question.
