Watch Louis Skinner, winemaker, give a 2 min overview of our current 2019 Rhone-styled wines. The Untold Story is a wine with a purpose. It challenges us to be bold in the face of adversity and follow our dreams, despite the odds. It's about making a difference! Betz's entry-level red wine where they donate $5 of every bottle to charity is a knock-out value for the price of $35.
With a combination of 40% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Syrah, 10% Merlot and 10% Grenache and aged for 14 months in 100% French oak, you can't find a better wine for the price point. A fresh and vibrant nose of black raspberry, black currants, smoked meats and dried italian herbs dominate. The palate is full and balanced with notes of red and black fruits, ground sweet baking spices and a long robust finish.

I recently read a Seattle Met Magazine list of superb wines. I'm not a wine connoisseur by any means, so I often rely on others who know more about wine than I do. On this list, Betz Family Winery, on Woodinville-Redmond Road, was featured for its Pere de Famille Cabernet Sauvignon.
It's been a while since my husband and I have purchased a bottle of really nice wine, so we decided to treat ourselves recently.
The winery is a lovely place. Customer service was top-notch when we stopped by to get curbside pick-up for our Pere de Famille Cabernet Sauvignon - helpful, informative, and friendly

It was our 5 year anniversary and we are so happy we chose to spend it with the Betz.we were not sure what to expect at the start. They had a busy afternoon, with stragglers lingering when we arrived. A slower, late start opened up to an afternoon of great conversation. We got to learn a lot about the vines the winery uses in Washington, Oregon and South Africa. They provided a beautiful board of pairings, with specific selections for each wine and this ended up as our favorite part of the day. We got to know the two individuals running the tasting, and we found them to be personable and unique

I'm really bummed I have to write this but unfortunately our group had a bad experience.
First off, if you charge $65 per person (plus tax) for a wine tasting, this better be an AMAZING experience. We had 6 tasters that were maybe 1 ounce each and a nice charcuterie plate. The charcuterie plate was maybe equivalent to $15 so now that leaves $50 worth of wine. It was a 95 degree day in Seattle, the tasting room isn't air conditioned and the wine was served at room temperature. Imagine drinking red wine that the bottle was at room temperature. It was really bad. I also thought we were

Even though it was late on a Friday afternoon and we ran late to our appointment Taylor Lewman waited for us and greeted us warmly. In fact everyone we ran into after we parked our car greeted us carefully. Taylor was very informative about Betz wines and also spent a lot of time educating us about wine making and tasting. We also received a leisurely tour of the Betz Winery with all of our inquisitive questions answered patiently and unpretentiously by Taylor. Their Chenin Blanc, Rhone and Bordeaux style blend creations were amazing! I am now their fan and on their wine club wait list!

Very confusing. We tried to go to betz. After parking and walking over we found a tiny teeny sign that said office. But there was no direction to a tasting room. The pictures other reviewers show a building with big brown doors. I'm thinking that this is not the tasting room. We gave up trying to find the tasting room because of no signage.

Does having great wine make up for being a bad business owner? In today's day and age, is discrimination and lack of a moral compass acceptable as long as you make a good product? The more I sink my toes into the wine industry the more horrible things I begin to hear through the grape vine (pun intended) in regards to the owners of Betz Winery. If only the previous owner can see what has become of his legacy. Employees being treated like trash and discriminated against, being taken advantage of and underpaid.
It's a disgrace to see what has happened to this place in comparison to what it once

For those of you who don't know Betz does wine tastings at the winery.
What a wonderful setting. They have a pergola by the winery that is lovely. The views from the property are beautiful and of course the wines are the best! We had a charcuterie tray that was to die for. Taylor took us through the wines and was very knowledgable. What a top notch group.

Bob is a friendly, caring and soft spoken gentlement who really has forgotten more about wine than I'll ever know..
You can't come to taste here.. but when you're on the mailing list you can order and attend their release parties which is twice a year..
Always look forward to these and time to pop a few of the early 2000s, as age really does these wines kind..

While you can't really stop by to taste, Betz is one of the best in the area. I am a bit bummed that they've sold, but at least Bob Betz is going to stay on as the winemaker for a few more years.
Solid wines with great nose, depth, and finish....although many need to be cellared for a bit at least.
Plan ahead, look on-line, and try and stop by for an event.
Price points can be higher, but worth it for the most part.

Incredible wines from a small, family-owned winery which only opens their doors a couple of times per year. I have to thank my knowledgeable wine expert friend Pablo, formerly of the Barking Frog and now Bouchon in Beverly Hills for introducing me via Clos de Betz, blend of 6 grapes yielding one of the best Washington Wines.
Carmen Betz has been known to bring in some of the best Modena vinegars I've ever found.
Because finding this wine is a chore if you weren't lucky enough to be on the "closed list", many folks do not get to try it. The Whole Foods in Redmond and Redmond

Bob Betz is simply one of the most decent, intelligent, helpful, generous human beings in the American wine industry. In his 28 years with Chateau Ste. Michelle, he was, because of his sheer intelligence and devotion to learning everything about all aspects of the wine industry, moved up the ladder quickly and, as so often happens in the corporate world, was moved away from the actual making of wine, going back to it in his final six years with Ste. Michelle and making some absolutely unforgettable bottlings. When he retired in 2003, nobody who knew him thought for a second that we would not start

If you've never been to Betz Family Winery, well then I'm actually not that surprised because they're only open twice a year. Once for their spring release of Bordeaux wines and once in the fall for the release of their Southern Rhone varietals.
Why only twice a year? Because their wine sales out so fast they don't need to be open anymore than that. Usually all of the wine has already been sold before the release weekend takes place. But if you didn't get a chance to pre-order from the mailing list then this is the time that you're able to come and taste some of Washington
