Services
It was the product of a grass-roots effort of parents and community leaders to establish a comprehensive, rigorous high school for students on the Upper East Side of Manhattan and has evolved into a highly collaborative, supportive, and engaged school community, serving all of New York City. We opened in a temporary location in Chelsea with 105 ninth graders and a staff of eight.

Eleanor Roosevelt High School is a school devoted to providing students with a rich intellectual experience, one that is academically challenging and thoughtful. Our comprehensive program is intended for a diverse group of dedicated, motivated students who, through their self-selection and previous academic history have demonstrated their desire to become critical thinkers, informed, conscientious decision makers, and creative problem solvers.
Eleanor Roosevelt High School offers a comprehensive college-preparatory program with extensive Advanced Placement (AP) offerings, electives, and opportunities for college credit. All students are expected to successfully complete four years of core subjects, foreign language, electives, advisory, health and physical education from our extensive course offerings.
Advisory is an essential component of a student's experience at ELRO. The advisory program provides support to optimize each student's academic and emotional success in school. Each advisory is lead by an ELRO faculty member and two senior Peer Sibs who facilitate discussions about issues within and outside the school community, work on study and organizational skills, and are involved in community-building activities.
