Penner's was established in 1916 by Morris Penner, a Jewish immigrant from Poland. Morris began the business as a second-hand clothing and shoe store. After 14 years, his sons Ben, Max, and Sam Penner joined him, and together they decided to establish a first-rate men's clothing store. Through the 1950's, Penner's gained notoriety for selling Stacy Adams tangerine shoes to capture the pachuco style popular on San Antonio's West Side.
If you ask someone where to buy guayabera shirts, chances are they'll steer you to Penner's. Our San Antonio store is known for selling the finest guayaberas available. These distinctive shirts have alforzas, or tiny pleats, running across the front and back, in addition to one, two, or four pockets.
For those days when you want to look nice but need to stay cool in the hot Texas sun, the short sleeve guayabera shirt provides the perfect solution. Our guayaberas come in a range of styles and colors, so you can find the right style for any occasion. Wear them to weddings, work or even a night out with friends.
Our authentic shirts come to us from Mexico, Panama, and Columbia. While many retailers are selling factory produced guayabera shirts, our shirts are authentically made in Mexico, Panama, and Columbia with the finest materials - such as buttons that stay fastened and embroidery that remains sharp even after many washings - our clothing will stand up to long-term wear.

Penner's is amazing! My fiancé needed a suit for our wedding and we could not have been more impressed. Zeke helped us find a beautiful suit and even got our alterations finished early since my fiancé had to report elsewhere on orders soon after our first visit. The alterations were perfect and he absolutely loved the way it fit. They even altered the dress shirt! Zeke also helped us find accessories to go with it and by the time we left, we were all set for the wedding! Support this local business, San Antonio!

Brace yourselves this will be a long one: I went to Penner's to get a suit with my brother. I'm a former competitive bodybuilder and 5 foot 1 so my shape is odd. They set us up with Zeke. When working with him, I realized the price difference in a high end suit and custom was only $300 or something like that. I figured, I'll go custom. I went the first time, the second, and then a third (standard for custom) to get fitted. The entire time, Zeke and Mitchell told me the fit would be very different and feel tight to me, since I had never had a custom suit. I had a huge fear that things were cut too

Any time there is an event, whether it's a celebration or holiday, my spouse and I come to get him dolled up. The personal service is always astounding and on point by everyone that works there. Very polite and attentive. If something doesn't fit properly, they always have someone there to alter his clothes and have it ready in reasonable time. It might not be on the same day but they will do their best to do so if it's a lady minute thing. However, be prepared or plan to come days in advance in case they can't have it same day or next. Can't get service like this anywhere else!

I had probably the best customer service experience of my life here - thanks to Mitchell at Penner’s. I was in town for a conference, and was invited to Bohanan’s, the nicest steakhouse in San Antonio, by some good people in my industry. However, I did not have any suitable dinner attire to wear as I didn’t think I would attend such a nice venue when I packed my bags. I came into the store an hour and 20 minutes before my reservation, and asked Mitchell to help me with the pickle that I was in. He immediately said he could get me looking professional on time. I came away with a nice jacket

Very friendly, very professional and knowledgeable folks here at this San Antonio institution. You will be seen to and taken care of--great experience. I bought a pair of shoes, and ordered a belt which came in a few days later as promised. Mr. Penner himself called me to get my Houston shipping address. What a gentleman. My Mother In Law left to visit the angels on a permanent basis last week.
Family decided that we were going to wear the same color Guayaberas for Rosary and Funeral. And, I had not been shopping at Penners for over 20 years.
Do not remember the experience then, but I do appreciate it today.
From the time that I walked in, Harim walked over and asked my son and I what we were looking for. Pink Guayaberas and Black. Harim was very efficient, kind, said the correct answers for the questions I had.

Great service and attention to detail. I always feel special when I walk into Penner's. The salespeople really know their business. The last time I was there, I bought a men's Guayabera and they tailored it to fit me perfectly. I can't say enough good things and wish customer service was like this everywhere.

The staff at Penner's were amazing. We had been looking for a suit for weeks for him. Due to his unique size we couldn't find a suit that would fit for him. He is tall and thin. We had the alterations lady at a store tell us about Penner's. Not feeling hopeful as this was the 8th store we were going to, we were immediately helped and they could order a suit to fit him. After a few alterations, he has what he needs.

When I visit San Antonio, I always make a trip to Penner's. I've been coming to Penner's since the 1990's. This is the only store I can find authentic guayaberas. On this recent visit I bought four shirts. They always have what I am looking for. The staff is excellent and they can custom tailor clothes to fit. I will keep coming back.

There are places where business is done, there are businesses, and then every once in a while we get to experience the first two with dash of tradition or heritage. Very few times do we get the opportunity to experience all of these at the same time, much less with different people within the company/business.
That is what I can sum up Penners and their staff, and the following is why I will do as much business with Penners from here on out. I'm a little ashamed to admit but I found myself in the unfortunate situation of needing a very last minute alteration on a dark suit for an occasion

Happened upon this place while on vacation in San Antonio. The display of fedoras in the front window caught my attention.
Penner's is a great men's clothier. Broad selection, free tailoring and a friendly, knowledgeable staff.
I ended up buying a Havana shirt. It fits great and looks good (at least that's what my wife says).

I stopped in based off the window displays of Guayabera-style shirts and basically the fact it's been there since 1916!! The outside is old and shows it's resilience (withstood floods and fires), but when you enter, you realize they have only quality items and dedicated service to offer. Upon entering, Alford welcomed us and informed us of their selection in a friendly manner. Soon after, he simply let us look around and shop on our own, until we needed assistance. Great service!

My husband originally went in to get an estimate for tailoring a suit he was going to order online for our wedding. We met Zeke (one of the managers that's been there for years) who gave us the information on the tailoring prices and offered to show some suits in the store. I encouraged my husband to take a look since I'm not quite comfortable purchasing something important online and I'm so happy he did. He found a wonderful, charcoal gray fitted suit which was $200 cheaper than the online store! It is still a bit on the pricey side but we couldn't be happier with the product
