Mattress Recycling Council

The Mattress Recycling Council (MRC) is a nonprofit organization formed by the mattress industry to operate recycling programs in those states that have enacted mattress recycling laws. The program is currently running in California, Connecticut and Rhode Island and is known as Bye Bye Mattress to consumers.

More than 50,000 mattresses are discarded in the U.S. each day and more than 75 percent of a mattress can be recycled. MRC is leading the way in our program states. We provide no-cost collection networks statewide for both residential and commercial volume. We invest in research to increase efficiency and recyclability.

More than 75 percent of a mattress can be recycled into other products, diverting valuable resources from local landfills. More than 50,000 mattresses are discarded in the U.S. every day. We invest in research to identify new end markets, increase recycling rates, improve the efficiency of used mattress collection and help contracted recyclers increase profitability by identifying mattress dismantling and recycling best practices. We invest $1 million annually to incubate creativity, develop new uses for recycled mattress components, advance recyclability and fund infrastructure improvements at collection sites.
