Kato Marine is located in Annapolis, Maryland - a beautiful town located on the Chesapeake Bay. Although some refer to it as 'the sailing capitol of the U.S.', we simply call it home. We opened our doors in 1988, specializing in finely finished, high quality stainless and aluminum custom fabrications for the marine world.

Due to repeated demand, this had led to the design and engineering of the products you have seen throughout this website. Drawing from our custom fabricating expertise, each production product is designed with the flexibility to be 'customized' in-house to fit each vessel like a glove. Here at Kato Marine, we pride ourselves on the relationship that we develop with our customers.
Services
BayII model - Stainless steel. Generally for smaller boats and lighter dinghies, roughly 27' to 35' boats, or dinghies around 8' - 10' and light. Winch model - Stainless steel. Same design as the Island model, but with a self tailing winch to make hauling the dinghy easier. All stainless steel models attach to the stern rail.
Our davits have withstood the test of time. We have been building the Island model davits since early 1990. During that period we have had several new competitors join us in the market, some of which have mimicked various designs of ours, but most have not managed to match the quality and finish of our davits and some have neglected the finer engineering details that make the difference.
Kato's Winch davit has been developed for the heavier dinghy/motor combinations that are becoming more common these days. They are identical to the Island davit in dimensions so that they can be used in pairs or with one Winch model davit and one regular Island model davit. The Winch davit weighs in at 22 pounds (10 Kg.) each; it is provided with a 2:1 purchase leading to a Harken ST20 self tailing winch - this provides a 40:1 lifting ratio.
The 'VOYAGER' model is a lightweight, streamlined davit that has been designed to enhance, rather than distract from the appearance of your boat. An eye pleasing streamlined shape, designed to suit any size dinghy with a six foot beam and under. Internal 6:1 purchase system with large Harken roller bearing blocks and white 3/8 braid to make it easy on the hands.
What does a Stabilizer do? - Kato's competitors don't always mention the need for lateral stabilization, but we believe it is an essential consideration for any quality installation. Apart from the direct downward load that a dinghy imparts on davits, there is considerable sideways load. This load is imparted by the heeling angle of the mother vessel, and the wave action under the vessel.

I've used Kato Marine for welding over several years. Most recently I brought a boat in for a friend and customer that needed an aluminum arch welded. We backed up to their roll-up door and turned to getting the arch off the boat.
That's when things got interesting.
It took my friend and me six hours of labor to get the arch off due to limited access and some creative installation practices by the boat manufacturer. While an interesting story (that included snaking a plumber's pipe camera in to guide a socket wrench) the real issue is the consideration and support of Kato staff including owner
