Physicians Organizing Committee (POC) began in 1983 when a handful of doctors from a variety of practice settings had seen enough of the destruction of our profession and harm caused patients at the hands of economic and political policies, increasingly outside of our control as individual practitioners.

They decided a new organization and strategy was needed and came together to build an organization that could reset the priorities for the provision of medical care according to medical necessity instead of restrictive corporate HMO, insurance company or government criteria. POC is a free and voluntary unincorporated membership association.
Services
As neither physicians nor nurses, other allied health professionals or patients alone have the strength to contest the health insurance, pharmaceutical and hospital industry's stranglehold on health care, POC continues to develop alliances with allied health professionals while reaching out to organized groups of patients through labor and civil rights organizations, consumer groups, churches and others to save vital health care facilities from closure.
We provide comprehensive, on-the-job, training under the supervision of trained volunteer advocate. Learn to reverse insurance denials, advocate for expanded public health programs, and ensure universal access to uniformly high quality medical care. We teach interested volunteers all the skills needed to produce professional publications including news article research and writing along with design and layout.
