Services
In 1994, Lawrence Piazza, M.D. founded Coastal Eye Care in Maine. Under Dr. Piazza's medical direction and leadership, the practice staff has worked diligently to bring Eastern Maine and Downeast Maine patients state of the art medical and surgical eye care using advanced technology with a special emphasis on cataracts, cataract surgery, cosmetic facial procedures and glaucoma.
Lawrence Piazza, MD has been practicing general ophthalmology in Maine since 1992. After working for two years for a small group practice, Dr. Piazza established Coastal Eye Care, PA in 1994 to pursue his interests in advanced cataract surgical techniques and customized intraocular lens implant surgery in addition to the comprehensive management of medical and surgical eye diseases.
Our staff is committed to delivering excellent eye care in a comfortable, patient friendly setting. The receptionists, billing staff and technical personnel are highly trained, qualified professionals. Staff members regularly participate in continuing education classes to further enhance their skills.
In accordance with its mission and purpose, in 2005 Coastal Eye Care and its Medical Director Lawrence Piazza, M.D. commenced the search for ways to further enhance the overall comfort and convenience of patients in need of eye surgery in Maine.
After considerable study and review, the State of Maine granted Coastal Eye Care and Dr. Piazza a "Certificate of Need" indicating endorsement and authorization to build a new stand-alone ambulatory eye surgery facility to serve the needs of Maine patients.

Do not use this place. They messed up on the eye exam and then refused to take any responsibility for it after the glasses I ordered based on their prescription did not work. (I checked with another place to make sure that the problem was with the exam/prescription).
They claim their prescriptions only last for 30 days (which makes no sense) and, even so, the new prescription was worse than my old one.
Outside of the blatant mess-ups, their staff is unhelpful and unsympathetic. Try Eyes P.A. instead.
Bottom line: this place is incompetent and they waste your money.

The entire experience was excellent. I was referred to Dr. Piazza from Dr. Amy Marnecheck of Belfast because I wanted to explore various lens replacement options for cataract surgery. I couldn't have asked for better service, from the office staff, to the eye care technicians, to Dr. Piazza's full explanation of my options and why they would or wouldn't be good for me. Everyone was friendly and courteous, professional, and efficient. The instructions for pre-op and post-op care were precise and easy to understand. The surgical procedure went smoothly with perfect results. I would recommend Coastal

They did cataract surgery for my mom. There were several problems.
1. Bad anesthesia. For the first eye, they sedated her, but she woke up during surgery. Second time, they did not sedate her, and she felt pain during surgery. They made the anesthetic drops in the eye more the half of hour before surgery.
2. They damaged her vein with IV.
3. The nurses are rude. Every nurse is trained to answer only few questions. If you ask wrong nurse a wrong question, she will get mad at you. The patients are treated as details on an conveyor line.
