Services
Routine eye health exams are important, regardless of your age or physical health. During a comprehensive eye exam, our eye doctors do much more than just determine your prescription for eyeglasses or contact lenses. They will also check your eyes for common eye diseases, assess how your eyes work together as a team, and evaluate your eyes as an indicator of your overall health.
Contact lenses are the number one choice for many people with vision correction needs. For many, they provide flexibility and convenience. Whatever your needs, from lenses for astigmatism, colored lenses, Corneal Refractive Therapy Lenses (CRT), bifocals, or daily contacts, we have them all in one place.
Purchasing eyewear is an important decision in which several factors should be considered. Our trained professional staff will assist you by determining your specific eyeglass needs. We consider lifestyle, work environments, sports, and safety. Eye glasses are worn continually, so they should reflect your personality and enhance your appearance.
Corneal refractive therapy or 'CRT' is a method of correcting your vision without surgery or the daily wearing of contacts and eyeglasses. We fit you to a lens you'll wear overnight, then remove in the morning. The lens reshapes your cornea while you sleep so that you can go through your day without the need for corrective eyewear.
When you call Penobscot Eye Care with an urgent eye care issue, one of our trained professional staff will triage your problem. If the issue needs immediate care, we will do everything possible to have you examined by one of our optometrists. If there are no optometrists on staff, we will refer you to the ophthalmologist on call.

The place has gone downhill since Dr. Sawyer left. I have been a patient of Penobscot Eyecare for over 40 years and am now looking elsewhere to find a professional eyecare provider. There are plenty of eyecare providers in the Bangor area. I would recommend trying one of the others.

I went first time to receive an eye exam and to receive aid with allergy eye care. The only thing done right was the allergy drops prescribed. The horrific day after am appointment will be an emotional and financial stress. I was sent to er to get MRI after finding "swollen optic nerve" and just so you all know the er thought it was a joke to be sent to the er for an mri....they gave me bloodwork and a ct. Eyeball fine. They discharge me and send me to Northern light Optometrist for another exam and scan. I'm fine. No tumors. No swollen optoc nerve. My entire day was was worry and stress about

I've been a patient here for about 20 years - 2 times a year for most of that time. The first sign of trouble was their unwillingness to allow me to speak to my doctor last summer about upcoming surgery - they couldn't spare 3 minutes to speak with me. During Covid my vision became worse - I called for an appointment on July 13- the first opening was in late October - over 100 days in the future. I called another Bangor eye care ... nine days. Next week they can see me.
I'm a loyal customer but I need to be treated better than Penobscot Eye Care treated me.

Called to set up an eye appointment and receptionist wanted to get out exactly at 5, asked if can call tomorrow, said that I’d be busy & she hung up. If you want rude, this is the place.

This place is questionable at best. They for sure need customer service training. Rude, impolite and if you ask to speak to a manager they will hang up on you. Save yourself time and trouble. Horrible customer service!

I give this place a zero stars if I could. I called in after having an injury to my eye. I was told by the rudest woman that I am no longer a patient so basically have fun with that injury. I called another place they were happy to take me and my insurance.
