Many of my students have found learning Reiki to be a life changing experience. They've healed deep wounds, they've found purpose and passion in their lives, they've undergone deep personal transformations and awakenings, they've begun or deepened their spiritual journey, they've helped the people around them that they love, they've become Reiki practitioners and teachers.
It was developed by Mikao Usui in 1922 in Japan following an enlightenment experience he had that also gave him powerful healing abilities. He created a method for harnessing and using that energy, known as Usui Reiki Ryoho (Usui's Reiki Method) that is predominantly a practice for personal growth and spiritual development.
There are 3 trainings in the standard Reiki curriculum, Reiki 1 (Shoden), Reiki 2 (Okuden) and Reiki Master (Shinpiden). You can progress through the them as quickly or slowly as you'd like. I'm also the creator of 2 specialized trainings - Reiki for Parents and Reiki for Birth Workers. These courses combine a Reiki 1 certification with practical training in how to use Reiki to treat common childhood ailments or common perinatal challenges.
Over the last decade I've taken multiple Reiki trainings with a variety of teachers and they've all been very different. I've definitely gotten more from some teachers than others. This initial training was in Western Reiki (although it was positioned as traditional) and I went on to train in Japanese Reiki and Jikiden Reiki and am certified to teach both Western and Japanese styles.
When we're anxious our energy moves differently in our body. It's chaotic instead of smooth, and too much of it is in the top of our body, which is why we often get symptoms like overthinking, a racing heart or feeling nauseous. Our nervous system is over-activated, moving us from a calm, parasympathetic, 'rest and digest' state to a sympathetic, 'fight or flight' state.
