Good nutrition and learning go hand in hand. In line with our Mission - Together. Inspiring Health and Success in Every Child, the GVSD Child Nutrition Services Department is made up of a team of food and nutrition professionals that are dedicated to students' health, well being and their ability to learn.
We support learning by promoting healthy habits for lifelong nutrition and fitness practices. Since 1977 we have taken several steps to provide students with healthful choices. We provide students with access to affordable and appealing foods that meet the health and nutrition needs of students. We do not fry foods, offer a variety of student approved entree's, provide fresh *local and organic vegetables/fruit and serve whole grain items.

Services
The GVSD Child Nutrition Services department serves meals to over 20 school sites across 9 school districts. Meals, foods and beverages sold or served at schools meet state and federal requirements based on the USDA Dietary Guidelines. All meals, foods and beverages are prepared and served by qualified child nutrition professionals.
The winning recipe for a healthy lifestyle includes a combination of both good nutrition and physical activity. Your body needs a variety of nutrient rich foods to grow and prevent illness. And your body also needs to move and exercise every day. Well-nourished students have higher test scores, increased school attendance, improved concentration, and improved classroom behavior.
Proper nutrition in the school age years can reinforce lifelong eating habits that contribute to a student's overall well being. This will help them to grow and learn to their fullest potential. Play the games and test your skill. Choosing the right foods can help you learn better, play harder and have a lot more energy.
Recommend that all foods and beverages made available on campus (including vending, concessions, a la carte, student stores, parties, and fundraising) during the school day are consistent with the current Dietary Guidelines for Americans. Insure that all foods made available on campus adhere to food safety and security guidelines.
