The Kitchen
Get food so healthy, it's like you made it from scratch. Actually, we did! Every item on our menu starts with fresh, locally sourced, organic ingredients, thoughtfully combined with Pan-Asian inspiration. As long as we have been coming to Orcas, The Kitchen has been the first place we go after arriving on the island.

When we got married on Orcas, it seemed like the obvious choice to ask Charles if they'd be able to cater our wedding. The Kitchen pays such loving attention to every detail and they do so even when serving 200 person wedding parties. The feast they prepared for our wedding was beyond our wildest dreams.
Services
Established in 1998 on Orcas Island, The Kitchen's priority is to support family, friends, our community and the local food economy. Owners and Co-Chefs Charles Dalton and Jasmine Townsend buy from local producers, purchase organic ingredients, make it here on Orcas, and keep it simple and fresh.

And because we want you to be able to find healthy, fresh food handmade to your unique needs, we offer gluten-free and a full range of dietary-sensitive options. We support cottage industries and access ingredients from local farmers, fishermen and vendors who help us connect with organic farmers and whole food manufacturers throughout the Northwest and beyond.
The Kitchen offers catering for large and small events with a genuine farm to table approach. We understand that each party has unique needs, and we are happy to accommodate as much as possible to make your event a success. Use our catering menu to help plan your full-service event. Please drop off your serving platters one day before desired your pick-up time - no extra cost.
If you're planning a large party (more than 35 guests) on Orcas Island and want to order off our Catering Menu without the full service option, you can arrange to have "just the food" presented on your serving pieces. This is the perfect option for many events such as weddings, reunions, retreats and other large gatherings.
You'll be able to enjoy every minute of your event as we deliver your farm-to-table feast and then set up the staging and beverage stations, pass or set out appetizers, serve the main meal and clean up. In addition, bartender service is available. See our full Catering Menu. For full service catering, you'll want to reserve at least three weeks in advance and we'll ask for a deposit.
No matter how large or small your planned catered event, The Kitchen's catering menu is designed to please. Choose from party fare to main dishes, salads, desserts and beverages. We strive to use seasonal, mostly organic, locally sourced ingredients. Each item listed will generously serve up to 10 people.

The owner is an anti-vaxxer and conspiracy theorist who calls COVID a hoax on her public Facebook page. I wouldn't feel safe eating here.

This place was overpriced. They did not give very much meat for how much the 1 soup bowl which was 20$. The wait was over an hour after you ordered. They did not have to go spoons which frustrating in a tourist town. I did not Try the plate, but my friend liked the flavors. The pho though was not very flavor full and they were out of Udon noodles, and most of the bowl was filled with veggies not any real protein. If you need something fast and filling don’t go here, but they do a great job of making it look beautiful.

Over priced (but what isn't on the island?), and it took an hour to get our food... We were hoping that it would at least be worth the wait, but it was underwhelming. Not bad, but nothing to write home about. The quality of the ingredients was good, and that is why I gave it 3 stars.

Horrible and rude service! Ordered a noodle soup that came with tons of peanuts all over it (peanut as an ingredient not listed on the menu). I brought it back for a new meal and was told I can pay for half the meal again! If you serve a major allergen- at least list on the menu! Very rude and disrespectful. Anyone working in food service or in a business in general knows this is never how you treat a customer.

You cannot go wrong with anything that includes the black sesame rice cakes at The Kitchen! We make it a point to go anytime we are on Orcas (sometimes several times)! Service is always friendly, but be aware there will be a wait for your food as it is a small kitchen. Food is delicious and fresh as can be. If we could give The Kitchen more than five stars we would - recommend you go the next time you're on Orcas! Has a kids' menu as well!

First off understandably it’s season so the lines are long, but being greeted by a cashier with an attitude is unacceptable for the food industry.
Secondly, the kitchen doors are open, and the staff as openly bussing the dirty dishes (both ones from customers and the kitchen - during a pandemic mind you) where another staff is preparing food. I’m sure servsafe taught all of us otherwise.
The owner is in the kitchen without gloves, making food and just refused a customer a remake of food because she “cannot justify wasting the ingredients to remake the food because of an allergy”. Insisting

Obviously not impressed.
The kitchen was small and pretty disgusting whilst crammed with staff not wearing masks, not one.
In addition our food was about 45 min to an hour in the making, and their eating area was surrounded by construction.
Can't speak to the food as my experience let me to abandon my order.
My advise, find someplace else. Enzo's cafe is an alternative.

I wish I had checked the reviews before coming here. If I had done that, I would have seen that the service is poor, the food is mediocre, and the wait is RIDICULOUS. Unfortunately, my family and I had to discover all of this firsthand.

As we ordered our food, the girl at the cashier didn't smile once and actually rolled her eyes when I asked whether the dish I was ordering was spicy.

After waiting an hour in line and another hour to receive our food, we were underwhelmed. I ordered a sushi roll that was mostly rice. My mom ordered a chicken wrap that had approximately two bites of chicken

Lovely outdoor cafe in Eastsound. If you’re on orcas island definitely check this place out for fresh, healthy dishes. The rice plate was very customizable and tasty. The shrimp and salmon rice places were definitely the highlights for me. Service was friendly and the ambience was top notch!

Hate to leave a poor review on such a great island. I liked the vibe, the drinks, the cute decor & patio. Interesting Asian food options but we went with it & the food was fine, nothing exciting but totally fine. However, the service was awful. A lady at the counter took our order (tattoos on backs of arms) and she was just rude. Not friendly, not kind. We ordered starters and after 20 minutes of waiting asked politely if the food would be ready soon. Her exact response, "it's not ready yet. I'll bring it when it's ready." I asked if it will all be coming out at

The Kitchen is one of my favorite restaurants on Orcas, and I make the effort to stop in during every visit... at least once! This time around my food was even better than before.

So yes COVID is going on, although it didn't affect my family's typical experience at The Kitchen much.

We ordered at the counter (masks on of course) then waited at one of the picnic tables outside for our food to be delivered. During our first visit this trip--a Monday lunch around noon--I went with my usual plate of brown rice ($3.5) + seasonal veggies ($5.5) + tofu ($3.25) + coconut curry sauce (included

The Kitchen is one of my favorite restaurants on Orcas. Super yummy and healthy food, with plenty of vegan options! A sweet outdoor eating space in a perfect location. Highly recommend. I love the basic plate with tofu, veggies, wide rice noodles, and peanut lime miso sauce.

Waited 75 minutes for a burrito and a small side of fries. It was 1pm on a Friday on a beautiful day, so it was a little busier and that's understandable. Estimated wait time was "30 minutes" when we ordered. Except....
The 2 tables AFTER us got their food before us.
My friends & I murmured to ourselves, "...I think they forgot about us..." to which the passing server said loudly, "I DIDNT FORGET ABOUT YOU!" With A LOT of attitude and loud enough for the entire patio (12-15people) to hear. :( :( :(
5 minutes later, the server comes back to ask, "okay, what did you guys have?" Never apologized

Mixed feelings on this place. We went on the last weekend before they closed for the winter. It was chaotically busy and the staff was very clearly overwhelmed, so maybe that's why I was less than impressed.

The Kitchen certainly has a super-cute vibe, with its charming covered courtyard to dine in, nicely-designed menu, and cute cottage setting. Because the courtyard was covered on all sides, it was nice and warm even on a cold autumn day.

Unfortunately, because of all the people coming to eat here around lunchtime, it was a super tight squeeze and it seemed like a vicious fight for the

This place looked hopeful, but man, I left very disappointed. My noodle dish was nearly $20, and didn’t even have that much food on it, and had almost no flavor at all. I had to put on soy sauce AND chili garlic sauce to make it flavorful, something I’ve never had to do with an Asian dish. My wife’s soup was okay, but nothing to write home about. Overall, the atmosphere here is cool, but it’s way to expensive for the level of service and food they put out. Won’t be coming back.

Super tasty local-centric Asian inspired menu. Szechuan pork is a favorite with locally produced pork, as well as Potsticker special with your choice of sauce, try the Peanut lime miso. Fresh seasonal veggies steamed and sauteed to perfection, soups, and shrubs, yum! Good place for kids, vegans, and gf diets. Everything cooked to order, good food takes time so don't be in a hurry.

There are not enough restaurants in Eastsound, so we ended up here for a lunch, despite having seen some of the negative reviews.

We ordered two different plates and a drink. The food is served on paper plates in a little basket plate holder. Forks are some sort of biodegradable wood product, nice idea, but they splinter in the food!

Thai chili sauce was great, good amount of heat with complex flavors. Curry was a bit bland.

Unfortunately the food is over priced. I get paying $4.75 for the chicken, but $5.75 for a fairly small amount of veggies, that's kind of ridiculous.

In theory The Kitchen is an exciting restaurant offering a variety of healthy, organic, locally sourced foods. Salads and wraps, rice bowls, soups, deserts, starters, all with an Asian fusion flair.

The menu is largely do-it-yourself, which likely causes a headache for the kitchen staff. You pick a base (a rice or a noodle, one of five), then a vegetable or protein (at least eight choices here), then a sauce or broth (from a list of seven). For wraps and salads you choose a dressing and a vegetable or protein (again, lots of choice). Then you grab a seat and wait.

This restaurant was not what we thought it would be. This is what happens when non-Asian individuals try to make authentic Asian plates.

Environment: 8/10. The environment of the place is the only reason this place didn't get a one star. It was nice and outdoors, friendly, and would have been a nice place if it wasn't for the food

Food: 2/10. I ordered a plate with fried rice, prawns, and teriyaki sauce. They drowned my plate on teriyaki sauce, and it looked more like a soup than anything else. The menu was also a bit confusing at got charged an extra $5.50 for vegetables
