A Podiatrist is a "Doctor of Podiatric Medicine (DPM)." The podiatrist specializes in the treatment of foot and ankle problems. Most podiatrists have a four-year undergraduate degree prior to entering podiatric medical school. During the four years of medical training after college, special emphasis is placed on the medical and surgical identification and treatment of foot, ankle and leg problems.
Podiatrists have one to three years of residency training in foot and ankle surgery following their four years of specialized medical training. The majority of patients seen by the podiatrist are referred to the specialist specifically trained in the treatment of foot and ankle disorders. In addition to their surgical training, podiatrists have extensive training in the non-surgical treatment of foot and ankle problems.

Dr. Herbst has been in private practice since 1999. He attended The Ohio State University and graduated Magna Cum Laude from The Ohio College of Podiatric Medicine (now Kent State University). He completed his surgical residency at St. Vincent's Medical Center in Jacksonville, FL, where he was also a Chief Resident.
After receiving his Undergraduate Degree in Biological Sciences from Indiana University, Bloomington, Indiana and his Medical Degree from Illinois College of Podiatric Medicine, Dr. Yant completed his Residency at the Ankle & Foot clinic of Youngstown, Warren Community H. Dr. Robert D. Yant opened his practice in 1980, with a desire to bring the best podiatric care to Jacksonville's First Coast community.
