Though we have been in business for over 12 years, our partnership started a little over eight years ago. We specifically designed this package for preparers who are working under someone or working for other tax offices and wish to start their own business or are otherwise confident about his/her ability as a preparer.
If you're interested in starting an independent tax preparation business, the first step is to officially register with the IRS (Internal Revenue Service.) In order to file tax returns professionally, you will need a Preparer's Tax Identification Number, often called a PTIN. If you would also like to be able to file returns electronically, you will also need an Electronic Filing Identification Number or EFIN.
