Lead paint is serious business. Lead inspection and lead risk assessment are helpful first steps that can lead to more thoughtful decisions on managing lead paint and lead hazards. Lead abatement is an activity designed to eliminate lead-based paint hazards permanently. Abatement is sometimes ordered by a state or local government and can involve specialized techniques not typical of most residential contractors.
The new standards apply to ALL dust wipes collected in Maryland. We are available at your convenience, including evenings and weekends. The Maryland Department of Environment (MDE) requires 24-hour notice before we can perform the lead inspection. The Maryland Lead Risk Reduction in Housing Law ("Law") requires inspections to be conducted at various times.
RRP stands for Renovation Repair and Painting. It says that basically all renovations done in a residential house built before 1978 need to be done by an RRP-certified contractor using lead-safe work practices. To test the areas of the house that are going to be renovated, we can use EPA -recognized test kit, the XRF gun, and 'shoot' the components or paint chip sampling to determine if there is lead-based paint or not.
Lead-Based Paint Hazard Risk Assessment combines dust, soil, and occasionally water testing with the XRF testing of selected suspect surfaces. In addition to this analytical testing, a thorough visual inspection of the property is made. An extensive interview is conducted with the occupant to determine how the property is used.
