Susanne has always had a passion for good wine and great fun. In late 2008 she decided to buy a piece of property in Ramona, Ca and start a vineyard. Just 3 weeks later, in early 2009, they planted their first vine on the property. While waiting for the new vines to produce good grapes, Susanne started wine-making right away.
In 2011, she started using her estate grapes to make her wine. In 2013 she opened the Vineyard Grant James tasting room to the public and to this day, she loves to see people enjoying her wine and the atmosphere of a boutique winery in the Ramona valley. The winery is named after Susanne's son Grant, and her father James.

In Southern California, we have an ideal soil type and elevation for a variety of unique and beautiful grapes. With over seven acres of vines, we offer award winning roses and white wines, noted for their aromas and clarity, as well as single variety vintage dated wines aged to perfection.
Our very own Susanne Sapier invites you to join her on a 7 night cruise along Germany's beautiful Moselle and Rhine rivers. This new cruise itinerary combines two beautiful rivers, sailing through the heart of the extraordinary German wine regions. The fairy-tale like ports are charming and of great historical interest.
Our tasting patio is open rain or shine, with no need to reserve in advance. We are located in the heart of the Ramona Valley wine country, just off of East Old Julian Highway. My friend and I visited on Sunday and it was absolutely lovely! The atmosphere was serene and although it was a windy day it still felt very comfortable to be outside in the ambiance they provide. All the wines were very tasty with our favorite being the white Bellatrix. They served crackers and cheese and fruits and it paired perfectly. Loved that people can bring their dogs there and we got to pet a couple of very good boys lol. There was also a cool cat hanging out who greeted us upon our arrival. Still the best winery in Ramona... Believe me, we've been to them all... We joined this winery 7 years ago... Usually we drop wineries after a couple years due to the quality tapering off... This place keeps exceeding expectations... They get better!!! The owners introduced us to some new varietals today... Usually these wineries in Ramona and Temecula have one or two home run wines... I am being honest here, they have more than 5... It's always tough to decide which bottles to take home... Great wine. Great staff... Chill location... Fire pits this afternoon were great...

My wife and I have done wine tastings in most of California's wine regions but this was our first experience in Ramona. We were very impressed with our experience at Vineyard Grant James. Not only were the wines exceptionally good, but the ambiance in their outdoor patio, boasting beautiful views of their vineyards and surrounding hills, added to the experience. We came here on a Thursday around 1:30PM. At the most crowded point, it was us and three other groups. We were supposed to stop by and move on to two other Vineyards, but ended up just staying because we loved it so much.
Jacques really helped make our experience special. We loved hearing about how him and his wife created this "little piece of heaven." It felt like we were in their house and his hospitality was great!
The wine was amazing! We got the tasting and it was nice to try so many different things. We ended up buying 7 bottles of wine to ship home so we can drink and reminisce

We ventured out to Ramona from downtown San Diego on a Monday night. We went for the wine tasting and finished with a glass of our favorites. The owners were absolutely lovely and made the experience so personal. We were so lucky to have the entire patio to ourselves and were able to spend several hours sipping wine and looking out to the quiet hills. I have absolutely no complaints and will come back at the next opportunity.

Some places you visit can make a lasting impression. Our mini vacation mapped out about 10 wineries we'd chosen to explore. Vineyard Grant James was one of them and it was our first stop on day 2. Due to acquiring a bolt in our tire through the hills, the visit was brief, but we made time to have a full tasting. We relaxed while we took in the extraordinary view, sipped on wine and left with a couple of bottles. Susanne, the winemaker was very accommodating. We went for a hike with friends in Ramona and decided to go have lunch at a winery. The first winery we had planned to go to actually closed for tastings so we had to scramble for plan B, and we are extremely happy we had to scramble. We decided on Grant James and was very pleased with the service, ambiance and the wine. We had 3 couples and 8 kids (all girls under 9 years of age). We sat out back under a beautiful oak tree. The girls ran around and played with the vineyard dogs which were so nice and enjoyed the play time. The wine was really good and would go back in a heartbeat.

Yesterday was the second time we visited this winery because we wanted to try and purchase the viognier wine. Lorrie and Cole welcomed us in with a fire place and explanation of the wines for that day's tasting. While we sat by the fire,Jaques came out with blankets for us. He also gave us a generous glass of their viognier.We were totally blown away when Jaques gifted with a bottle of the viognier!! We can't express how much we love this boutique winery. And the people who work there. You must visit this winery when looking for very drinkable wines and a lovely environment.

MAKE THE TRIP!! Stop making excuses, Romona is not that far away, and this wine is so good that you will appreciate the effort that you out into it. Staff is very friendly and nice. This is the main reason we come here, but as a bonus the wine is very good. Bring friends and family because this is a nice place where you can put up with anyone after a couple of glasses. You can also bring your own food. Which is awesome! Make the dive and come up and have some fun!!!

Excellent experience! My friends and I found Grant James Winery after a day of searching for native wood in Ramona. This place was fantastic! They had recently changed their hours, but still sat us at 11am and treated us like VIPs. We sampled a number of delicious wines and ended up joining the wine club. I highly recommend this place for their hospitality, quality and overall experience.

OMGosh, where do I start? This is truly THE HAPPIEST PLACE ON EARTH !! From being greated by "bad dog 2" to the wine aficionado Jacque and his wonderful wife Susanne. The grounds are filled with vines and flowers, romantic lighting with a beautifully lit fountain. and the wine...did I mention the AMAZING wine? Seriously if you visit the Ramona area you are missing out if you don't go here. We will be back and I will be drinking you wines and reflecting on such an adventure you bestowed upon us. Wow, have I learned a lot about this valley in our week here. I didn't think there could be quality wine tasting in San Diego. I am thrilled to report that this winery rivals experiences in Napa or Paso- and it's in So Cal!! They have a beautiful outdoor patio and are open for tastings, as long as you wear a mask when you're not at your table. The wines are lovely and are even fairly priced for their quality. We can't wait to come back!
