Classification is the development of independent technical standards for ships and the verification of compliance with these standards throughout the ship's life. For a ship owner finding the right classification society is the difference between plain sailing and choppy waters.
Classification by the International Register of Shipping (INTLREG) has achieved global acceptance by ship owners, flag states, P&I clubs, underwriters and regulatory bodies. This is because of our understanding of real-life maritime situations and our uncompromising approach to maritime safety and environmental protection.

INTLREG is delegated by global governments to certificate maritime vessels and this allows us to perform surveys, audits and plan appraisals as per various international maritime conventions, codes, and national regulations and to issue certificates. Our global network means we can inspect vessels at times and locations to suit ship owners and operators.
INTLREG provides industrial verification services covering materials and components. We support ship owners and operators with unbiased and independent third-party verifications of conformance of these products, services, or management systems based on pre-established criteria.
Our verification services can ensure the qualifications and operational procedures of welders and their equipment, verification for the testing of materials at recognised and authorised laboratories as well as the auditing of processes directly related to a vessel's operational performance.

Suppliers delivering services relevant to ship certification or the classification of ships of INTLREG certified vessels need to meet the specific requirements of this society. These service suppliers are subjected to approval by INTLREG HO based on our rules while serving INTLREG vessels. The approval is to ensure that the service provider company meets the relevant requirements in terms of qualification, quality, and delivery.
