Square Peg Winery
The Square Peg tasting room is located on our Estate Vineyard, just outside the picturesque town of Occidental. Our tasting room offers stunning views, warm hospitality and award winning wines. All Tastings and Tours are private. Additionally, the tasting room houses a Fine Art and Sculpture gallery featuring work by Artist in Residence Alanna Roth.

Our Estate Vineyard is located in one of the finest sections of the Russian River Valley and is also co-located in 2 additional AVA's: Green Valley of Russian River Valley and Sonoma Coast. Dry farming sets us apart from our neighbors; the only water our vines receive is the rainwater that percolates into and is stored by the soil.

Our Square Peg Estate Vineyard is located in one of the finest sections of the Russian River Valley, and is also co-located in 2 additional AVA's: Green Valley of Russian River Valley and Sonoma Coast. Situated on a ridge at an elevation of approximately 800 feet, the Estate receives ample sunshine throughout the day, and our proximity to the coast allows for cool, foggy evenings.
Dry farming sets us apart from our neighbors; the only water our vines receive is the rainwater that percolates into and is stored by the soil. We firmly believe that dry farming produces grapes (and ultimately wine) with better balance and more concentrated, unique flavors.

Soil composition plays a large part in the practice of dry farming, and the abundance of Gold Ridge soil at the Estate ensures the vines stay healthy and productive without the need for irrigation.Gold Ridge soil contains a top layer of sandy loam, which provides excellent drainage for rainfall. Beneath this lies a layer of mineral rich clay, which serves to retain moisture during the summer months, as well as provide nutrients for the vines.

Alex was a perfect host. The tasting experience was memorable for our family. Personally for me, I think it was the best wine tasting experience ever. The conversations around the vineyard history, different wines, dry vineyard and the resulting wines were all very interesting. I could see the passion. We walked out with 2 absolutely fantastic zinfandels. @Alex- thanks for making the rainy and gloomy day so much brighter for us. Wish you and your family the very best!

Not only are the wines and the estate great, but one of the owners recommend Just Cause 3 to me. I just got it for $2.99 and it rules. 5 stars for the wine, the tour, and the video game recommendations.

Prioritize this visit!!! Alex, the owner and host, provided such an amazing private tasting experience. We learned, laughed, and loved the wine. The story of Ottomino and the origins of the winery was memorable and touched close to home for my wife and I, who both have Italian ancestors. This incredible man ventured to CA and planted grapevines that would become the incredible vineyard we all can enjoy 100+ years later. Ours never made it past the East Coast! Alex is knowledgeable, personable, and a pleasure to be around. + Alex's mom's art is impressive and there is a redwood cluster near the

We were in the area and decided to plan for a stop here. Plan ahead as they are by appointment only. I got on the waiting list and they reached out via text and were able to accommodate. The wine tasting is $35 and one charge gets waived for every 2 bottles purchased. Alex was fun to chat with as he took us through the tasting. Definitely the antithesis (in a great way) of the big winery experiences we had during our stay in Napa earlier in the week. We especially loved the Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. Unquestionably worth checking out if you’re going to be in the area!

Great Pinot noirs here! Me, my friend, and husband visited this winery on a beautiful day! The property is absolutely beautiful and peaceful. We made reservations ahead of time and was seated inside the tasting room which was also an art gallery featuring one of the owner's paintings and work. You get views of the vineyard from the tasting room which is great. There was even a bunny running around outside. Our wine expert guided us through a tasting which consisted of Chardonnay and Pinot noirs. We loved the Pinot noirs and went home with plenty of bottles :) You can make a tasting reservation

I never write review, but this winery was spectacular! The owner, who gave the tasting, was so kind and friendly. He started off by offering to share about the winery’s history and the science behind it their wines. During the tasting he was easy to talk to and pretty funny. Plus, the wines were delicious. I went with my sister and we both highly recommend scheduling a tasting. The tasting room is also beautiful, with stunning artwork. You will not regret it!

A picturesque family owned and operated estate focusing on dry farming.
Alex was really clear and generous throughout the tasting.
I became a big fan of their estate Pinot with all its minerality but they also make a really unique Chard and Zinfandel.
Worth revisiting!

The vineyard and tasting rooms are picturesque, and the wines are fantastic, but what separates Square Peg from other vineyards is the amount of care Brad clearly has for his wines and the history behind them. If you're nearby, there is no reason not to stop by Square peg for a tasting and a bottle (or case) to bring home.

The drive up up through the redwoods to Square Peg is totally worth it! Once you arrive at this beautiful spot you'll be treated to a walk through the vineyard and a sit down tasting of their delicious and well balanced Rose, Pinot and Zinfandel, made by one of the wine industry's Titans. It's a magical spot and the wine, which is very limited production and not available elsewhere, is great. Don't miss it!

Really quiet, beautiful location. The host is super personable and caters to whoever the group is. We'd definitely go back with more people. Wine was awesome and super relaxing. They even let you try extra wine and tour the vineyards (if it's not too wet out).

We had a truly wonderful experience. It was one of the absolute best tastings we've ever had.

I am extremely impressed with the the concept of dry farming and the results it delivers.

The artwork displayed, wine tasted and most importantly the conversation had was all perfect. Thank you for the great time.

My uncle can't stop talking about his experience at Square Peg! He tells me "Alex is a real cool dude!"

True. You see, my uncle has a host of medical, physical, and mental challenges. It's not easy to take him anywhere. I tried the free vineyards, but people stare and comment. We now only go to nice places, off the beaten path.

It was lucky we found Square Peg! (His favorite, frogs leap, was closed) So now he has a new favorite! Alex was SO nice to him! Instead of retreating into his shell, my uncle felt comfortable opening up. Mad dog 2020... old girlfriends... Miami

This was such a find! I cannot tell you how relaxing and beautiful this place is by just using words! You NEED to experience it. Alex is amazing and knowledgeable and super sweet! Brad, who I did not meet in person YET, was also really responsive and you can tell they both love what they do.
I have done a lot of wine tasting but every single wine here was special! We are now members and very excited about it!!
My goal is to meet the artist in residence! Her work is breathtaking and thoughtful. I am not an artist but have done a few things over the years so I know the work that goes into a piece

Lovely small family owned winery and vineyard. Alex is a great host. Beautiful tasting room, decorated with bronze sculpture create by the owners. While taste in wine is very personal, we really enjoyed everything they served- chardonnay, pino, and zin. Each had an unexpected and distinctive character that we thoroughly enjoyed, and may be due in part to their dry farming techniques. Worth a trip. Reservations required.

Brad gave us a customized tour of the vineyard, the beautiful art of his wife and the spectacular estate wines. We were drawn to this hidden gem by the name and impressed by the delicious complex wine. My group and I enjoyed Brad's down to earth candor that made us all feel like VIPs. Make time to visit Square Peg Winery on your next trip to the Sonoma Coast.

Brad was the consummate host. After describing how Square Peg got started, we went out into the vineyard where he showed us the trellising and grafting techniques they use. In addition, Brad explained the growth of mustard and radishes between the rows of vines. Then to the good stuff. The tastings were generous and excellent. We left with a case of wine and I wish I had bought more. BTW, I was surprised how much I liked the Rose'. Brad's wife's art adorns the small tasting room and is fantastic. Words fail to express just how unbelievably special this place is. Very private, small estate, family owned vineyard. Brad, the owner, took his time, gave us thorough explanations of everything that goes into creating his beautiful and delicious wines. He explained what it means to dry farm the grapevines (no outside irrigation) and even explained about the grafting process. I learned so much in the 2-3 hours we spent here. Our group thoroughly enjoyed the private tasting experience. The tasting room is beautifully decorated with Brad's wife's artwork (she does metal sculpting and

Hands down my favorite wine in this area. We had a chance to meet Brad and his son Alex and had an extraordinary time tasting wine from the past 17years! Every single glass was spectacular and unlike the others. I would highly recommend coming to taste for yourselves. The prices are great too! Amazing setting and a very special place.

Living in Sebastopol, the wife and I find ourselves drinking a little wine from time to time. That being said, we're constantly on the lookout for someplace we haven't been before. A friend had suggested Square Peg. So, I picked up the phone on a Saturday, with no real hope of getting in, only to have Brad tell me the tasting room was booked but he'd be happy to give us a private tasting in their little stand of redwoods.

What a great experience. The chardonnay was delightful, being a more French than California style. The pinot noir, was everything you hope for in a Russian River

Come to Square Peg Winery for a fun day of wine tasting and thank me later. :)

Our host Alex was such a nice guy. He was very informative without being a pretentious wine snob (you guys know who you are). He treated my boyfriend and I like old friends rather than just paying customers. You can tell he has a true passion for wine and super easy to talk to. The tour of the winery was a treat as well as all the artwork on display. If you are looking for a VIP experience with your girlfriends or just a fun date this place will definitely take care of you.

Cheers! :)
