We are a locally owned business rooted in Southwest Minneapolis since 2006 and deeply committed to producing not only good food, but also good community in the Lyndale and Kingfield neighborhoods. We partner with Beacon Interfaith Housing Collaborative, a local non-profit working to end homelessness, in giving the youth at Nicollet Square job experience.
And now with our new partnership with Wildflyer Coffee we're expanding these opportunities. We serve "extraordinarily ordinary" food at Butter - no fancy pants stuff, just your favorites, all made from scratch right here. Come early to snag a buttery pastry hot out of the ovens, or later for breakfast, lunch, an early dinner, or a treat.

We are happy to accommodate kids and special dietary preferences, as well as to-go kitchen orders and special custom orders by the bakery. Our deli case is full of quick light bites, and we brew a rich cup of coffee to wash it all down. And we make ice cream too! We do it all from scratch in house, sourcing from local, small, and co-operatively owned farms and businesses as much as possible.
We've got pies, breads and cheesecake for your Thanksgiving table, baked in small batches, from scratch. Our pies and breads feature local and organic ingredients wherever possible, with short ingredient lists. And they're delicious! Your purchase supports local businesses and farms. We proudly use Hope Creamery butter, pure Wisconsin maple syrup, regional flours and grains, and local pumpkins, honey, and apples.

Desserts are always a treat, but they didn’t stick the landing this time. For some reason, the bacon for my brother and I ended up borderline burnt. I like it more crispy vs fatty, but I’m pretty sure nobody likes brick bacon. I’m talking extra, extra, extraaaa crispy. Maybe they cook forgot to remove the bacon, but it should never have left the kitchen. We also ordered a hot chocolate drink and assumed that it would be brought to us like the food. Unfortunately it was not and it just sat at the counter until after the food came out. What made it worse was that instead of just bringing us

For lunch — Chicken noodle soup and a mixed greens side salad.
Food - A savory soup with plenty of veggies and chicken. The mixed greens brought a freshness to the plate with the variety of greens and garnishes. Top it off with a light oil and vinaigrette dressing for a warm edge to the salad.
Staff - The staff here is always cordial and friendly. They have taken the time to help me make decisions on food choices and drink options. They bring your food out and provide a clean environment for casual dining.
Atmosphere - The seating is varied with table and benches, stand-alone tables, and outdoor

Excellent staff, the breakfast egg & cheese biscuit w/ the Cliff option was delicious...sorry no picture, I couldn't wait to eat it. The Eclairs are the best I have ever eaten! The rhubarb muffin, also delicious. Prices reflect quality of food. Food and staff are awesome, check it out for yourself and make sure to get an Eclair.

Homemade chai!! And it's fantastic and not overly sweet at all!! They make a great latte. Also, they have a lower caffeinated red tea version. Ten stars for the chai alone, but five more for the bakery items, the beautiful sun filled space, the great staff, their missions, efforts, priorities, and values. Helping homeless youth, paying livable wages, local sourcing, it goes on and on. If I ever move out of southside I'll still make the trip here.

What a cool spot! This cafe is community-centered and great for meetups. The atmosphere is bright and engaging and the menu is quality. They serve food and drinks in actual dishware of plates and mugs. They are well-staffed, but the wait can be somewhat long at times. There's a lot of seating. The food is full of flavor and portions are good.
