Archbishop Riordan High School
Academics is just one part of the Riordan experience. As a Catholic school in the Marianist tradition, our goal is to help students become the best versions of themselves. Riordan offers one of the most supportive environments, where each student is challenged to achieve their very best. Our faculty, staff, and coaches are mentors who support student growth.

There are clubs and activities to try and new skills to learn. All of this takes place in San Francisco, the global destination for innovation and creativity.
Services
Offering students a values-based, Catholic, college preparatory education in San Francisco.

Archbishop Riordan High School, an Archdiocesan Catholic High School in the Marianist tradition, prepares young men and women for leadership and lifelong success by providing education imbued with Catholic Marianist values of faith, community, inclusivity, service and justice through its rigorous college preparatory curriculum, house system, and co-curricular activities.
Riordan is a community rich in talent that is committed to the development of all students. Our adult mentors help our young men and women navigate the challenges and opportunities of high school. Parents are true partners in their child's education and build relationships with other families that last a lifetime.
The Archbishop Riordan High School Board of Trustees works closely with school leadership to provide strategic advice and counsel relative to school planning, facilities, finance, institutional advancement, and other areas of the school. Board members represent many parts of the Archbishop Riordan community, including alumni, parents, the Marianist community, and business and education leaders.
For more than 70 years, Archbishop Riordan High School faithfully served the exceptional young men of San Francisco. Now we're in a new chapter of our history with a co-ed model that began in the 2020-21 school year. As Archbishop, Riordan firmly established the Archdiocese of San Francisco through his building and restoration program and his support of Catholic education.
A new vision for Riordan. One of the characteristics of Marianist education is to Educate for Adaptation and Change. Doing so means that we "discern the movement of the Holy Spirit in response to the signs of the times and educate to shape the future" (Characteristics of Marianist Education, Society of Mary, 2020).

My daughter came to Riordan as a sophomore when Mercy SF closed. While we were all excited to be part of Riordan's going co-ed, as with anything new, we expected there to be bumps along the way. Mercy was a very small and progressive all-girls school, so we were really wondering what this year would look like with the girls being added to the brotherhood - especially when not everyone was so thrilled at the prospect of going co-ed. Mostly everyone was happy about it, but there are some people who chose Riordan specifically for the brotherhood aspect.

I thoroughly enjoyed my 3 years at Riordan back between 2001-2004. I transferred from Burlingame High School, and I’d gladly recommend this school over any others.

Probably one of the top tier Schools in SAN FRANCISCO.

In terms of PRIDE, PURPOSE and PERFORMANCE
ARHS is #1.

The goals and relationships you build here are basically lifetime commitments.

The things I have learned and the people I have met through the ARHS family are now my actual family.

Everything about this ALL BOYS school is conducive to a great learning environment.
I know the stigma with an all boys school is not every teenagers dream but, the pressure of being a teenager is dampened when you're not only competing for scholastic aptitude, athletically and then socially and personally

My dad was class of 1962. He loved Riordan so much that he put me into an all boys catholic high school run by Jesuits called Father Duenas Mem.HS [he was martyred by imperial Japanese army troops in Guam 41-44 because he refused to stop saying mass for local islanders] I graduated there in 1986. If we had still been living here then, I surely would've gone to Riordan HS. No question about it...

My son is a freshman at Riordan and he absolutely loves it! The transition from middle school could not have been better. The school has amazing teachers, many of whom went to Riordan themselves. I love that students are encouraged to give back to the community - service hours are mandatory and my son is doing all kinds of work outside of school with his friends. The teachers work hard with parents as well, encouraging us to let students advocate for themselves. I am thrilled with his high school experience so far and I'm so thankful my son chose Riordan.

Let me start by saying I am very proud to be a graduate of Riordan High School, which is what the school was called when my two brothers and I attended in the seventies. I am even prouder to be an Alumni Parent and have a son that graduated with honors 36 years later. My son truly enjoyed his time at A.R.H.S. and excelled in many ways. During his 4 years there, he participated in several sports, band, student government, and campus ministry. Upon graduation he moved across the nation to attend Texas Christian University and continued to excel by using the excellent tools he was given at A.R.H.S

Archbishop Riordan High School is where brotherhood lasts a lifetime. My son graduated several years ago but we still feel as close to the school as when he attended. Riordan is a place where young men develop and become successful members of society. This family environment allows the boys to be themselves, loved, and feel included. There are a variety of clubs, sports teams, and activities to strengthen the bonds between the boys and to learn teamwork amongst themselves. Many of the boys go off to college together where they continue to look after each other. My son has gained not only

These young boys thrive in the all male environment believe it or not. Have to rely on the boys to take all the leadership roles. Stronger pride and brotherhood from this leads to a better sense of community in this school. My nephew here tells me that people have no trouble fitting in here. And when kids are so comfortable, that leads to better participation and contribution to the school community.

These cliques that the other people are talking about are bound to be in every school you'll come across, and the students turn from boys to young men by graduation.

Sports are highly competitive

I went here from 2001-2004, and I loved it! It was very encouraging, and the best part was that they had resources for disabled students to be successful too! so much better than SI, SHC, and Serra!

#1 at the bottom in San Francisco!

We have a gang of faculty and staff. Our administration made mess. We collect all junk families who eagerly want to paint their sons as clowns. How funny to see their sons insult themselves!

Academic? We don't want to talk about, just post band and sports news instead. It'll make those parents happy.

Sadly, we are losing students, but we can cheat on other countries. Yes, we made money!
Oops.... remember to tell people 'we'r in spirit'.

No assistance for students with actual educational needs: ADD, ADHD, Dyslexia, Learning Disabilities, etc. Staff & Faculty fail to recognize "At Risk" students, ignore their needs completely if they do & actually have expelled a student days before graduation instead. The irony of a school that is paid by parents to teach their children the important lessons of life is not lost...the school's moral compass is dictated by their faith and carried out horrifically by people that can make such a positive difference in a young person's life but don't. I am appalled: being better means doing better.

I currently go here and it's a great place to learn, wonderful staff and great kids, I learn so much. Once in a while you might get a bad teacher or somthing but their are few. Theirs a reason why you pay money to go here, its a college prep school, if you want your kids to go to college they really prepare you for it. They almost force you to go.

The curriculum is challenging yet good enough for a student to do with no stress, arts program is good.

All in all great school highly suggest it

Side note( drive there early, so much traffic with city college and stuff.)

ARHS offers a great education for young men. I found the teachers and staff hard-working professionals who go out of their way to help the students achieve their personal best. Every type of student can find their niche at Riordan--jock, musician, theater buff or intellectual.
My son is an alum and thanks to his AP classes was accepted at several top universities--including honors programs.
Those reviewers that complained about fellow students and cliques, this happens at every high school in every city . When my son was a student there, there was a strict dress code and honor code.

Riordan is a great high school for those from lower incomes who cannot afford to go to SI or SH. It is not a school of last resort. Riordan continually graduates students that go onto college and excel. Actually about 99% of RIordan graduates go onto college after senior year. Also for some reason every girl I know loves Riordan guys over SI and SH guys. Just something a little extra.
