Went to Stalzy's to pick up a sammie for lunch today for the first time. It will absolutely be the last.
I ordered a pastrami Reuben to go. Get home (a couple blocks away), and unwrap it. Mushy bread. Open it up to see it, a ton of fat. Now, I'm not talking the silky, well cooked fat that you don't mind eating. This was undercooked rubber. Pull all of it off the meat, and there's not much meat left. Take a bite, and the whole piece of meat pulls out of the sandwich, because it's not correctly cooked.
That was, without a doubt, the crappiest sammie I've ever had. Threw

I love everything at Stalzy's! The bread and rolls are excellent, fish fry is delicious, the reuben with turkey pastrami or the Brooklyn breakfast sandwich are tied for favorite sandwiches, and don't even get me started on the bloody mary, pickled beets, German potato salad, and potato pancakes. My mouth is watering just thinking about all the delicious options!

I'm always looking for good pastrami, so while visiting Madison, I decided to try Stalzy's, based on Yelp reviews of the deli. It's peppery and fragrant. It appears to be made from brisket, rather than New-York-authentic beef navel, but otherwise it's solid. The server was friendly and helpful. I'd go back again.

Saturday afternoon lunch to go: reuben, rachel, grilled cheese were all excellent! Curbside pickup. Call ahead and place your order, then they bring your order out when you call back to let them know you've arrived. Nearby parks make for a nice and socially distanced lunch. I also liked the German potato salad as a side. The best deli I've experienced in Madison!

Went here for my mom who loves their bread, and decided to pick up lunch too. It was so good. The portions are alot larger than expected and everything was hot, ready and waiting for us. It was so easy to order and pick up. Food like this could even entice me to ride my bike around the lake, and that's saying something. Support this local business during Covid.

I've lived in the area for a long time and outside of having their bread at other local establishments, I've never actually gone/eaten their other food. Recently though, I got take out and tried their Reuben, Curry/garlic chips, potato salad, and sourdough bread. All were very good. If possible, I would give them a 4.5 out of 5. Nothing absolutely wowed me to push this to a 5, but this was still better than just a normal 4. The Reuben had good flavor, but could have used a little more kraut and corned beef. The potato salad was light and delicious. The chips were unique and I liked them

Ordered haddock fish fry a month ago for 7 ppl. Dan couldn't have been more helpful in helping make sure I had enough for everyone and walking me through the menu. The fish was perfect, excellent potato pancakes with apple sauce and great tarter and coleslaw.
Today we ordered reubens and it was the best darn Reuben I've ever had! My new go to place for takeout!

Been super impressed since the re-opening and dealing with these challenging times. Really nice to order a great meal and throw in other supplies like bread, cheese, sandwich meat etc. Fish fry is really good, both the walleye and haddock. Love the pork schnitzel too. Easy online order system and curbside pick up. We've been won over.

Yelp suggested you are closed. For those that read the comments: They are open for curbside pickup. Opened yesterday. I ordered pastrami, corned beef, smoked salmon, best darn German potato salad in the Midwest, Sauerkraut, and of course a couple pounds of bacon. Welcome back Stalzy's! Our family has missed your food! Looking forward to one day sitting in the new space and having a beer.

You can't get much better when you are in the mood for a high-quality sandwich. I ordered the special hot roast beef sandwich with horseradish sauce. It was perfect. Tender, high quality roast beef with great sauce. The bun may have stolen the show, it was an incredible carraway roll. Hard to make a great sandwich without good bread, and Stalzy's always nails it on the bread.
Only part of the meal I wasn't a fan of was the sweet & sour coleslaw on the side. But it probably wasn't their fauly, coleslaw in general just isn't really my cup of tea.

I will be back!
I've had this place bookmarked for a while now. Came in on Sunday for a late lunch... We got such an entrance by a man behind the counter that was so excited to show us the menu. I asked for a suggestion from the man, and i order The Rachel (Turkey with slaw). It was super!! My boyfriend enjoyed his bloody and Tough Guy sandwich.
They also have their own parking lot (major +++ in that neighborhood).

Stalzy's has been a super addition to willy street and Madison overall. We needed a place that serves solid corned beef.
Their pastrami is really nice - a bit heavier coriander flavor (less pepper) than normal. The rachel sandwich is a can't miss here. Their brunch is the best kept secret in Madison. I'm not going to give it away, but make it a point to go.

I love Stalzy's sandwiches and am basically addicted to their chocolate/butterscotch bars, so I had been eager to try their Friday fish fry and it did not disappoint! You get a choice of walleye or beer battered perch (they used Hamm's when we were there, not sure if they switch it up) and a choice of potato pancakes or German potato salad. I went with the walleye, my husband the perch and both were perfectly cooked and battered. The batter on the perch was particularly excellent - I swear you could taste the beer. The potato pancakes were a nice change of pace instead of the usual
