Services
Nature's Bakery was born out of the co-op movement of the late 1960's. Whole Earth Grocery Co-op on East Johnson Street was started in 1969 as the first store in Madison to provide natural foods, and provided the community with environmentally and socially responsible products in the Whole Earth Catalog.
Nature's Bakery Cooperative has been organized as a worker collective in Madison Wisconsin since it was founded in 1970. We are a worker-owned and -operated co-op specializing in natural and organic baked goods. All members not only have a say in the business, we all have major responsibilities in keeping the bakery moving forward.
All of our vegan burgers are wheat-free, 100% vegan and fully cooked. These are veggie burgers in the truest sense of the term -- we're not the kind of bakers to lull you into falsely believing you're eating beef when you devour one of our burgers, but rather the kind who gently coax your tastebuds into the love of all things plant-based.
Many of you have called or e-mailed asking for pick-up options now that our storefront is closed. We are pleased to share that Local Order Pick-up is now available! In our effort to limit contact from person to person, we have now launched a platform where you can order, pay, and schedule a contactless pick-up time.
A. While Nature's Bakery is unable to describe any of its products as "gluten-free" -- all of our items are prepared on the same equipment and in the same facility as our wheat foods - we do our best to keep different products apart, but we cannot guarantee that there are absolutely no traces of wheat or gluten in any particular product.

ONE OF THEIR DRIVERS REAR ENDED MY FRIEND IN NATURE'S BAKERY CO-OP'S COMPANY VAN ME AND RAN.
I called, my insurance called. Nature's Bakery Co-Op said "Since we dont know who was driving at the time, and no one will admit to hitting you. We wont pay for the damages."
Even though I had the plate and filed a police report. They were also driving an un insured vehicle. Karma is a b#$ch and what goes around comes around is all I have to say.
Any company that treats their community this way shouldn’t be in our community.

The Nature's Bakery Co-op on Willy St makes amazing veggie burgers (sold frozen), bread, pita bread, wheat free flat bread, buns, granola, calzones, and cookies- almost everything vegan! Everytime I go there they're incredibly nice and genuinely happy to have people come in! Their products are sold in many stores but are cheaper if purchased directly from their storefront. They're very good at special orders and are even open until 5:30 every weekday. I highly recommend stopping in to this quaint neighborhood bakery!

In operation for 50 years this is one of the longest running producers of natural baked goods in Madison if not the entire Midwest! Turn on the way back machine and think about hippies making bread - quick fast forward to today. The mainstay is small batch loaves made with organic wheat, my favorites are Cinnamon Raisin, Whole Wheat, and Light Oat. They also have other baked goods the best to me are Fruesli (European style date muesli) and the molasses granola. Show up early in the morning on a baking day and ask for bread "hot out of the oven", they will tell you it isn't ready -- but tell them
