Before there were sugar-bomb cereals, neon-colored yogurt in tubes, or unicorn frappes, there were doughnuts: simple, beautiful wads of sugar-fried dough intended to deliver a sweet punch of energy to start the day off right. For over 70 years, Mel-O-Glaze has been serving up sweets to folks who visit its charming south Minneapolis shop.

They've got apple fritters, chocolate eclairs, sprinkles galore, and bear claws the size of your head. But what Mel-O-Glaze really specializes in is the perfect glazed doughnut: fresh, warm, and ready to melt in your mouth. Arrive early enough to grab their doughnut holes, which staff attest are legendarily addictive.

We placed a large order for a wedding with Mel-O-Glaze. The process was easy and quick. It was nice that they don't require a long notice for a large order.
The donuts and pasteries are, of course, excellent. Great variety and quality. Everything was delicious!

I think this is a nice neighborhood bakery and it fills the needs of donuts. I like the mild lemony flavor in the donut but I'm not a fan of all the glaze. Like that they have dog and CAT biscuits and my cat liked it too.

One of the best donut shops in the Twin Cities! I recommend to friends and family visiting town - close to Lake Nokomis and Lake Hiawatha. Perfect for a Saturday morning donut run, coffee and stroll around the lake!

Best raised glazed donuts you will ever find. If you're ever in the area stop in and give one a try. They are light and fluffy with just the right amount of sweetness from the glaze. Your might try a box of the glazed donut holes, something about the plastic box I discovered, (which is recyclable), helps them maintain their freshness for a couple of days after purchase, extending your delete. Enjoying 1 or 2 with a cup of coffee the next day at breakfast, you will find is a wonderful way to begin your day.

I had the baby eclairs, whipped cream filled snowballs, glazed cherry donut, and glazed blueberry donut. I think the glaze was too sweet, but overall it was all good. The staff was very nice, and the shop was well taken care of. They had catnip donuts for cats hahah.

Nice local bakery in Minneapolis. I tried the custard long John with chocolate and sprinkles on top. Nothing super special but it was tasty! The chocolate chip cookie was crunchy and crumbly. I prefer soft and gooey but if you like hard cookies then this would be good for you! She also threw in a donut hole. Glad I tried it out!

The donuts are delicious! They have unique types of donuts. As a tip, get there early in the day to have the best chance of getting the treats you want. You can even text them your order to have them brought out to your car!

Awesome bakery.
This was my first time there, and they owner, who was a joy to talk to, recommended I try one of her custard eclairs.
Hers has 0.75 (three-fourths) of a pound of ice-cold Bavarian Creme filling in it.
Yes, you read that correctly.
This is my new favorite food group 👍😎❤️
