Love everything about Akanomi!! The staff, dining in or to go you can't go wrong!

We get food from here at least 2-3 times a month!

A hidden gem!!! This place may be small, but don't let the little place fool you, they have some of the best japanese food in the Capital District. Their sushi is amazing and always fresh, and their chicken fried rice is always a must have. Tonight I ordered the teriyaki chicken which comes with soup, salad, and rice (I always pay the $2 extra for the fried rice, it's that good!) and I will easily get two meals out of all the food they give you! The people who work here are super friendly and will always greet you with a smile. Highly recommend!!!!

Akanomi was a real shot in the dark. My friend and I had visited Thatcher Park and were headed towards Sharon Springs when we decided to go for sushi. We were unfamiliar with the area. What a find (thank you Yelp)!

We are seasoned Japanese food gourmands and ordered Tempura Softshell Crab and Negamaki to start. Both were delicious and on target. Seriously, the photos do these appetizers no justice. The crab, especially, was perfectly cooked. It could have been my entire meal.

This is a great place for sushi. In case you're looking at the photo of the outside, the restaurant has moved to the other end of the same plaza. The place was clean and staff were warm and welcoming.

I ordered miso soup, kani and a Godzilla Roll. I knew what I wanted when I got there so I placed my order right away. The soup and kani were out quick and the roll took just a moment to cook and it soon followed. Service was quick and professional, stopping at the right moments.

My only negative point was the plate for the roll. t's a unique ceramic plate with a giant shark head and tail

Amazing atmosphere, food, and people working. Love vivian and her husband.. have been going here for years since they first opened !! Such good service and the sushi is AMAZING. Trust the completely with the fish they are serving. 10/10 everytime! Highly recommend

This is my first time here, but my mother in law has been many times and swears it's the best in Albany. I agree! The service was quick and the staff is very polite. We started with miso soup and a house salad, and both were better than the normal fare. The rolls are well balanced and very flavorful. The rice is the best I've had in years. I highly recommend for a quick bite or even a romantic dinner. I'll likely be back next week!!

I'm not feeling the love for the local favorite Akanomi. It's fine.

The missus and I went for a rare date night and got a cozy corner table. We had no reservations, and were lucky to find a spot was available, although we were prepared to sit at the sushi bar if needed.

Akanomi's four seat sushi bar, really feels more like three seats, because one is adjacent to where a stream of people pick up and pay for their takeout orders. It wouldn't be terribly pleasant to sit there and try to enjoy a peaceful sushi dinner.

This was great quality sushi rolls for a great price. I had 3 rolls - the tuna crunch roll, the spicy tuna crunch roll, and hamachi (yellow tail) roll - all for under $15!

When a place can deliver on great service, and great quality food, I'm sold. I would definitely come back to this place.

In a word: delicious! My daughter had a volcano roll and I had Yaki Udon and we finished every bite. Service was fast and super friendly in a quiet atmosphere.

I had to come here to try the sushi because it popped up out of nowhere on Yelp with a 5-star average review... out in Altamont? So odd! Why not try it out?

The place was small, located in a strip mall all the way out in Altamont. When we came in, the place was packed, so we sat at the bar, which only had 3 seats. Shortly afterwards, a table in the corner opened up, so we took it. The restaurant has a very high turnover rate. The service is very fast. Almost all of the tables in there were filled with new people or empty by the time we finished our meal. However, many of these people had reservations

I was very pleased with my lunch in this tiny restaurant (only four seats at the sushi bar and seven 4-seat tables) located in a small strip mall about a 20 minute drive outside of the city center.

The server and chefs were attentive, friendly and polite, despite the close quarters both in front and back of house. The sushi bar itself was a bit congested, with a bunch of small advertising stands cluttering the space, each extolling one or more types of beer or sake. But that was the only advertising, as there was thankfully no obnoxious TV, which is all to common in other local restaurants.

Honestly...the food itself is just okay.

Service is excellent and every dish is presented beautifully. However, the dinner box provides small portions and left me hungry. The sushi (we had the volcano roll and the akanomi roll) was fine but nothing spectacular. I have had better sushi in the Capital Region. Akanomi, unfortunately, did not meet my expectations, especially after reading all the 5 star reviews.

This is a cozy little sushi place in a small plaza in Guilderland. We mostly stop here for sushi, but they have lots of other wonderful food.

The atmosphere is nice and small, with tables along a wall and chefs behind a counter.

We often get takeout, and the service is great. My kids can be picky about their vegetarian sushi, and we have no problems ordering just what we want - even "sushi" consisting of rice wrapped in seaweed. They always ask if I want the seaweed on the inside or out, or if I want sesame seeds on it, which I really appreciate when I have young kids.
