In the winter time, Kalkaska offers hundreds of groomed snowmobiling and cross country ski trails that lead west to the Traverse City area and north and east toward Mancelona and the Gaylord area, offering snowmobilers hundreds of miles of some of the best trails in Michigan. Most of the snowmobile trails are easily accessible from the parking lot area.

DO NOT BOOK HERE. We successfully made a reservation and they sent us a confirmation email. When we SHOWED UP for the reservation we booked, they say they do not have any such reservation and do not have any availability. That is absolutely ridiculous and unprofessional. We traveled 2 hours only to not have a room! They offered nothing for the inconvenience. Staff just shrugged and said there's nothing we can do. At least offer a free room or a discounted one for the future to attempt to make it right? Unacceptable.

WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE, DO NOT BOOK HERE BECAUSE YOUR CONFIRMATION DOESNT MEAN ANYTHING! My mom drove HOURS because this is where my grandfather (her father) is buried. We had a confirmation #, and they STILL wouldnt honor the booking...even though their website is showing availability still! We showed the front desk person our confirmation but he didnt care. WORST MOTEL IN AREA DO NOT STAY UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES!!

The good - its cheaper than other hotels in the area. It was clean enough for me (but not my wife). Checked for bedbugs and saw none. Interior is dated, but acceptable. The comfortable mattresses were surprisingly the best part of the room. The bad - had three rooms reserved thru Hotels.com. Showed up and he had two for us. Gave me some lame excuse about third party booking sites, but he clearly received my reservation. While I was there, another group showed up and claimed to have 3 rooms reserved, but he had none. They said they booked thru a 3rd party site, then called to confirm and were told

Wife reserved here but we tried to cancel due to a change of plans but we where refused and forced to come here. Wished we would've just cut our losses. Our room was dirty and dingy as well as being about 20+ years outdated. After reading other reviews, we checked our beds for bugs and sure enough we found evidence of them but couldn't tell if it was new or old but it immediately put us on edge and we left our things in car. Only positives is staff is friendly and price is cheap but I think we would've been happier with going to a camp ground.
